Social Problems in Manchester

Great Manchester is a big city that consists of few town and cities. Like other big city in the
world, Manchester has social problems. I will try to explain the problems facing this city are.
Firstly, there are a lot of Jobless and homeless here. We can easily see them around Picadilly
Garden, they usually ask for money from the people passing by. Some of them do something to
attract people’s attention, for instance singing, dressing up and painting their face. I like them
because they ask for money nicely, whereas in Indonesia they do that roughly. Sometimes I sad
if I see some of them lying in a sleeping bags especially in winter time.
Secondly there are many people who have alcohol and drug addictions. From my point of view
one of the reasons why here so many people have taken to drink is because here people can
get alcohol easily, there are a lot of shops and pubs that sell it. I know how it’s hard to survive
here especially when everything is expensive. And I think drinking alcohol and taking drugs is
one of the ways to forget their problems, it’s like a shortcut to being happy for a while. In
Indonesia, the government have strict rules to control the distribution of alcohol. That’s why we
can get alcohol as freely as here.
Thirdly, the newest problems is flood of refugees. They come here from other county outside
Europe but most of them are Asian. Especially they from come country which is in state of war.
They come here to get a better life, unfortunately they don’t have any skills. Moreover they
can’t speak English. So how can they get a job? And get a better life?
For the three problems that I explained above, this a solution. Here there are a lot of day
Centre, it’s really helpful for every person that I mentioned previously. In a day Centre they can
get something to eat, daily toiletries, helping from support workers, accommodation advice,
computer and language skills and also alcohol and smoking advice.
