(B) Objectives
This module enables students to put the knowledge and skills that they have acquired
from the course to practice. Students are attached to companies or organisations in
the industries relevant to their course of study. They will work on projects or fulfil
routine responsibilities that cater to the needs of these companies. Students will learn
to adapt to a real work environment and contribute to improvements in organisation
workflow.
1. Demonstrate the application of knowledge and skill sets acquired from the course
of study and workplace in the assigned job function(s).
2. Solve workplace challenges by analysing the work environment and conditions
and using appropriate skill sets acquired from course of study.
3. Articulate career options by considering opportunities in the company, sector,
and industry for professional and educational advancement.
4. Communicate and collaborate effectively and appropriately with different
professionals in the work environment through written and oral means.
5. Exhibit critical thinking and problem-solving skills by analysing underlying
issue(s) to challenges.
6. Demonstrate the ability to harness resources by analysing challenges and
considering opportunities.
7. Recommend ideas to improve work effectiveness and efficiency by analysing
challenges and considering viable options.
8. Demonstrate appreciation and respect for diverse groups of professionals by
engaging harmoniously with different company stakeholders (e.g. colleagues,
supervisors, suppliers etc.).
• Industry supervisor is the main person in the company who looks after the
internship of the students and ensures the internship programme is executed
as planned. He/she would assign tasks to the intern.
• An experienced staff (in the Company) who shares his/her knowledge and
experiences, provides advice, support, and encouragement for the intern.
• The mentor may or may not be the supervisor/reporting officer for the intern. In
circumstances where the supervisor and mentor are different persons, the
industry supervisor’s role would usually be to oversee the intern’s performance
in the technical/ day-to-day aspects of the job, while the mentor takes on duties
such as career guidance and personal /professional development facilitation.
• The contact details of the SIM are indicated on the internship confirmation letter.
Each student should contact the SIM after the pre-internship briefing, to
understand the working culture and expectation of the company.
• SIM will visit student during their internship. Students should contact SIM
should they face any problem or have any enquiries.
• Inform both company’s supervisor and NYP’s SIM (School Internship Mentor)
when on medical leave.
• Be sensitive and mature when interacting with your colleagues in the company.
• Have a positive attitude of your work. No matter how insignificant you think of
the task, it is part of the contribution to the company.
• Take initiative and be proactive in looking out for learning opportunities within
the company. Help fellow colleagues in their work if schedule permits.
• Be cooperative and work harmoniously with your fellow colleagues. The joy in
our jobs is directly related to how well we work with others.
• Post photographs and comments of the workplace on any online social media.
• Lab coat, long pants/jeans, foot-covered shoes must be worn in the laboratories.
• Students who are on internship need NOT come back for Director’s List award
ceremony.
• Students can only be excused from ITP for the special events below, however,
students must make arrangements with SIM and ITP coordinator to get school’s
approval by following the procedure below:
• Students are not allowed to negotiate the rate of allowance with the company.
• If you are required to stay back for overtime work, you may or may not be given
off-in-lieu or additional allowance. However, you should discuss with your SIM
if you feel unfairly exploited by the company.
• Each student is covered under the NYP Group Personal Accident Insurance
Policy.
• Before leaving Singapore, all OITP students (Singaporeans) must complete the
online registration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
• When a student is not well enough to report for work on a particular day, student
must firstly inform his/her respective Industry supervisor & SIM of his/her
intention to report sick for the day.
• Upon knowing the outcome of the medical treatment on the number of days of
rest granted by the doctor, re-inform the Industry supervisor & SIM.
• If the doctor deems that the student is well enough to continue with work on that
day, re-inform the Industry supervisor & SIM that he/she will be making his/her
way back to the company.
• Upon resuming work with the company, submit the original medical certificate to
the Industry supervisor for verification.
• Absence from work without a valid reason is a potential reason for failing this
module and this may lead you to repeat the entire module.
2. E-Report
Students must submit an e-report through NYP LMS. The report will be
assessed based on the report organisation, content, quality of writing and
improvement/ insights on the internship.
4. Supervisor’s Evaluation
There will be an evaluation form sent to the supervisor at the end of the
internship to evaluate the performance of the students. Students should show
good work ethics, professional proficiency, good quality of work, good
communication & teamwork, independent learning skills in order to score well
in the internship. Students should not contact the company to query on the
grading.
Students are to reflect upon their internship experience using any NINE (9) of the
guiding questions and THREE (3) mandatory questions Nos. 9, 23 and 24 as shown
in the table below. You are also encouraged to make use of mainstream media like
ST Online, Today Online and channelnewsasia.com for your reflection. Due
recognition will be given for reflection that quotes and incorporates article(s) from
mainstream media, especially ST Online.

choose this as a career, describe how you would prepare yourself

• For 24-week ITP, keep the report no more than 21 pages (~ 5000 words),
excluding cover page, table of contents, references and appendices.
• Font type: Arial; Font size: 11; Paragraph: Single line spacing.
• Students are also expected to write the report in their own words as the report will
be checked for copying and plagiarism.
o Single source < 10%, multiple sources <30%.
• Extensively copied or plagiarised reports will lead to failure of the entire internship
module.
• Each student is expected to speak for about 10 minutes (with the aid of PowerPoint
slides), followed by 5-10 minutes Q&A.
3. Reflections on Internship: Technical & soft skills learnt during the internship;
challenges encountered during the internship, and how the challenges were
overcome.
• Wear neat, tidy and formal attire for the oral presentation.
• Deposit the e-copy of your presentation slides on NYP LMS right after the
presentation.
• Respective SIMs and their contacts can be found in your confirmation letter.
