System description
DANGER
CO2 is poisonous; entering or remaining in the enclosure
during a CO2 release will cause suffocation and death. Be
sure to fully ventilate the enclosure after a CO2 release,
and prior to entering the enclosure.
The fire control system provides protection from flame, overheating, smoke
(oil mist) and leaking combustible gas. UV, thermal, and gas detectors are
located in the enclosure and ventilation ductwork. Through a link to a
dedicated fire and gas control and monitoring panel installed on the UCP,
these sensors automatically trigger alarms, shutdowns, and release of CO2
extinguisher. The fire and gas control panel also monitors the sensors and
their circuitry for faulty conditions.

The fire control system includes three main CO2 extinguisher tanks, three
reserve CO2 extinguisher tanks, two UV flame detectors, two flame
detectors, two heat detectors. The CO2 extinguisher tanks include a bank of
three main tanks and a bank of three reserve tanks in the GG/ power turbine
enclosure. Note: Manual initiation of any tank in the bank automatically
releases the remaining tanks in the bank. To alert nearby personnel, strobe
lights and a siren are activated upon fire detection or CO2 discharge.
Discharge is pneumatically delayed 10 seconds after CO2 release to allow
personnel to exit the enclosure. Read the Terra Fire System instructions, in
Auxiliary Volumes for more information.
Refer to the fire system diagram for details of which detectors, alone or
together, initiates a fire shutdown and CO2 release.
Heat detector
Overheat sensors signal the UCP to discharge the CO2 extinguishers when
temperatures reach high levels. Upon high heat detection the system initiates
a shutdown, closes the CO2 retention dampers, and shuts off vent fans.

CAUTION
If the system activates or discharges, refer to the Terra instructions, in
Auxiliary Volumes, for reset information.
NOTICE
Do not reset the control panel until the location and cause of the alarm is
found.
NOTICE
You can deactivate the system manually. Customer assumes all risk of
operating the gas turbine in bypass mode.
NOTICE
Refill empty extinguisher tanks as soon as possible. Do not operate
without at least one bank of charged tanks.

Manual activation
DANGER
If fire is seen:
Then manually activate the system by depressing the push button at one of
three stations outside the GG/power turbine and auxiliary enclosure doors or
at the CO2 skid.
Periodic Maintenance
Before performing any maintenance work on the fire control system, service
personnel must be thoroughly familiar with the components of the system.
Periodic maintenance, monthly and bi–annually, is recommended on the
CO2 system. Refer to the Terra Fire systems procedures for additional
maintenance information.
