Excitation System (Operation)
2) Regulator gain, setpoint voltage integral action
The control module comprises potentiometers U, K,T,
Ra? ands,
‘The rated generator voltage has been adjusted inthe
factory on potentiometer U, and the dynamic behaviour
‘ofthe regulator on potentiometers K, Tan 47
‘The settings are shown in the tes report.
Potentiometer Kis used to adust the controller gain and
potentiometer Tis used to adjust the integral action time,
‘whereas patentiomter R 47 is used to inject a disturbance
‘arable into the comparator point ofthe contol amplifier
{n order to agjst dynamic behaviour.
“Tuming the knob ofK and R 47 inthe direction of
descancing numerals and that of Tin the crection of
ascending numerals normally stabilizes the contro circuit
and reduces the control rate,
‘The stabilty ofthe control cirult can also be improved by
Increasing the bucking resistance, but the voltage seting
range of the regulator then is reduced atthe ower band,
‘Te setpoint ofthe generator votage can be shifted via
‘potentiometer U or an addtional externa setpoint
selector (R= 47 v0, P greater than 1 Wi can be connected
to terminals 1 and AB
Potentiometer U should be set to the centre postion, and
Imicrostch 51/3 onthe printed-cicuit board should be
opened.
4) Parallel operation by droop compensation
equipment
|when provided with coop compensation equipment,
brushless synchronous generators are sultable for
‘operating in parallel with each other or with a supply
system
The KW output is adjusted by the governor of the prime
mover.
The speed characteristic of the prime mover stould be
linear ana rise y atleast 3% ana not more than S%
between rated load and no toad
‘Droop compensating equipment ensures uniform
distribution ofthe reactive power and reduces the
‘generator output voltage in linear with the increase in
reactive current
Regarding generators with current transformer fr croop
‘compensaton, potentiometer S in the regulator is
adjusted so that there is no reduction inthe generator
voltage at unity ps. but a 4% reduction at zero pt.

“The corresponding voltage reduction at 0.8 of is 2.4%
In isolated operation and at any loading condition ofthe
‘Benerator, the droop compensation provided forthe
‘enerator voltage can be checked with te following
Telationshi:
2 Ust= 434 9/080 «IBN (8)
2.6.9 0.8 pt IBN = 1,
0 Ust= 4% JOR 1

Ifthe generator isto operate by it sel, droop
compensation equipment isnot required.
Itcan be deactivated by short-crcuiting the secondary
‘sloe ofthe associated current transformer or sewing
potentiometer Son the regulator to the leftshand stop,
5) Parallel operation by cross-current
‘compensation
When provided with cros-curent compensation,
brushless synchronous generators are suitable forthe
‘operation in parale with other generators ofthe same
capacity.
“This parallel operation by cross-current compensation has
the same voltage under al loads condition from no-load
to rated load.
\f the neutral points of several generators are
Interconnected or connected drect with the neutral
Points of transformers and loads, currents at 200%
frequency may occur.
‘Their magnitude should be checked by measurements in
the neutral conductor of te generators under al ioad
ccontions occuring.
‘To avoid overheating the generators, these currents must
‘ot exceed a value equal to about SO% ofthe rated
‘enerator current.
Higher currents shoula be limited by nstaling neutral
reactors or similar means.
