Target is to strengthen the reliability and service life of
RD314 in the field, and as a result
reduce the maintenance costs of RD314

existing RD314 drifter updated to the latest specification, by Sandvik Service Workshop Experts
• Update execution is based on Sandvik Rock Drill Repair Standard; usage of the regular repair
items and the new improved parts – for maximizing the benefits
• Majority of Consumable Parts remain the same – so your onsite inventory is still usable

Your rock drill performance and efficiency is based on the right selection of lubricants
− Hydraulic oil is chosen using hydraulic system operating temperature
− Shank Lube is chosen using Ambient Temperature
− Incorrect Lubrication will require a change to the servicing schedule as a minimum

Q; When should I carry out the Generation change on
my rock drill?
A; Ideally as soon as you RD314 is ready for its next service
or if you have some form of catastrophic failure.
Q; Should I send my RD314 to Sandvik workshop to
have the generation kit installed
A; Absolutely – Sandvik will check compatibility of all parts
and re-stamp your serial number to indicate it has the latest
generation parts installed
Q; Why does Sandvik want to change the Serial number
? Q; What if the customer wants to buy the parts
A; Sandvik want to be able to track the improved parts and
ensure we are continuing to focus on improving the right
parts of rock drills and follow that our customers are getting
the desired ongoing improvements
Q; Is there new warranty on the Generation update.
A; Normal warranty Sandvik T&C apply – for all service
related work
Q; Are any new tools required to repair the new version
of RD314
A; the original RD314 tools will work for the newer parts, so
no issues there.

Q; Is there an improvement in productivity with the
latest version of RD314
A; Performance will remain the same – but we expect
improvements in reliability and operations costs
Q; Can I still get the old RD314 parts?
A; All the old parts will be superseded to new parts, in our
systems.
Some of these parts are interchangeable – so majority of
your on site spares will not need to change
themselves to do the update?
A; The customers can purchase the new parts and install
themselves – it will be slightly more expensive for them to do
it this way.
Q; Do we need to change shanks?
A; Shanks remain the same
Q; What about day to day consumable items like
flushing seals, diaphragms, Schroeder valves etc
A; all typical site based consumables remain the same, there
are new Endurance kits & Repair kits for the new GEN3
version RD314
Q Why is choice of Hydraulic Oil and Shank Lube – so
critical to rock drill performance
A; rock drill service life is very much dependant upon having
minimu m required viscosity of hydraulic oil at a certain
operating temperatures. The higher the operating
temperature the higher the viscosity of oil is required, to
maintain the minimu m viscosity during operation – which is
around 20-25 centistokes. If the wrong hydraulic oil is used,
then life will certainly be shorter due to wear of moving parts.
