Soccer in Ecuador

Introduction

The practice of soccer was very limited in Ecuador and particularly unknown in the country, until
Juan Alfredo Wright, who lived in England, returned to his hometown, Guayaquil, in the middle
of 1899 together with his brother Roberto Wright. Those who had quality academic training and
knowledge of this sport, which encouraged young fans to practice soccer in the country.

Additionally, soccer has become the most popular sport in Ecuador. The most important
organization in charge of regulating this discipline is the Ecuadorian Football Federation,
founded 97 years ago, on May 30, 1925 (with the name of the National Sports Federation of
Ecuador). He joined FIFA in 1926 and Conmebol a year later. His football development places
him in the third historical world line.

However, there is an element that makes up a structural crisis: the increase in fan violence in
stadiums in recent years, which we will discuss in depth later, as well as the causes linked to this
problem, taking into account that violence in Ecuadorian soccer is a more recent phenomenon,
there have always been sporadic violent acts, but today it can be said that it has increased.

Body

Today the passion and rivalry generated by soccer inevitably manifests itself in violence. This
can have major or minor excesses that are linked, in many cases, to alcohol and even drugs. It is
ironic that these factors are associated with soccer, although it must be clear that in the end the
fan is not the one who makes the physical effort, but the soccer player.

It could be said, then, that violence is an inevitable part of soccer due to all the feelings that
surround a person linked to this sport. We have seen throughout these last years of experience,
that all that compression of feelings that the fan carries inside, is a bit the trigger of what society
lives, which often emerges in a football match, in the form of venting .

Therefore, I think that alcohol and drugs should be eradicated from football, unfortunately, it is
very complicated since it is a vicious circle of marketing, production and sale. For this reason we
have seen in recent years the increase in violence between fans of different teams inside the
stadium, for example, every time the League has an important game against historic rivals,
violent sentiment increases.

Conclusion

In short, the furor caused by soccer plus the sale and consumption of alcohol and even drugs
within the country's stadiums has increased violence among fans in recent years and has even
led to the death of many of them. This is given because alcohol influences people's behavior and
despite all the negative aspects that alcohol entails, it is a difficult business to eradicate within
stadiums since it represents a vicious circle of marketing, production and sale.

Recommendations

It would be advisable for the Ecuadorian soccer federation to create rules that prohibit the sale
and consumption of alcoholic beverages and drugs inside the stadiums. As well as restricting the
entry of drunk people, since these factors influence the behavior of the fans. Harsh sanctions
could also be applied to those who fail to comply with the rules established to maintain harmony
among the fans inside the stadium.
