REFLECTION PAPER NO.

1
NAME: RAFANAN, COLLEEN KIRSTEN F. SCHEDULE: MWF 2:30-3:30 PM
COURSE: AR452 – PLANNING 3 TOPIC: HUMANS ON THEIR ECOLOGICAL SETTING
SECTION: AR42S5 ASSESMENT REFLECTION PAPER
TASK:
Trace the evolution of mankind in relation to their source of food and/or food supply by placing pertinent information (about
how they obtained food) in tree-diagram timeline. Remember timelines should show dates/eras, people and place/s, and
means/source of food.

7 Million Years Ago

Humans sustain foods through hunting wild animals and harvesting wild plants.

11, 000 Years Ago

The food production began when and where they have started farming animals and crops.

Pre-Historic Era

Adaption of different kinds of food production; Ancient Chinese developed their own food
production; Ancient Egyptians got the idea from their neighboring areas; and Central
Europe created “Linearbandkeramik.”

A Thousand Years Later

Farmers developed heavy soils and tough sods using ox-drawn plow; and Native American farmers
grew crops in the river valley.

4,000 B.C.

The horses have been used for trading.

1,800 B.C.

The horses were used as chariots.

1,674 B.C.

The horses have been used for transportation in order to conquer Egypt and declared themselves as chariots.

13th and 14th Century

The Asians introduced the saddles and stirrups.

19th Century

During the World War I, the introduction of tanks and trunks were used; and farming for tough sods on the
extensive uplands.

Reflect and analyze your timeline. How important do you think based on the data in your timeline, is farming? Why? Base
your argument/supporting discussion on the assigned reading.

The exploration and adoption of farming in Diamond’s basis can be relatively determined by the ancient society’s
geographical and nature’s aspects. Even though the farming introduced and explored in a specific region, it was largely
spread in the wider area of the population of the society. Pre-agriculture and framing gave wider sort of advantages to
cultures that can be progressively utilized it by the civilizations.

Based on what Diamond’s assumptions, his general statement from this chapter, farming, set the societies equally
beneficial to region in Europe and Asia. Farmer and hunter gatherer had a great contribution to the ancient’s lifestyles which
totally includes a different way of development and progression. For the farmer’s instance, some cultures plant crops, then
a hunter gatherer continues while they grow, lastly return to harvest, and eat. Throughout the continuation of discoveries of
agricultures, the food production became largely increase of exploration and could support larger people which can also
tend to support the farming cultures to spread across the regions and neighboring areas.

Furthermore, farming sustains populations that are much better than hunting and gathering. Even cereal crops can be
sufficiently feed, and more than half of the food consumed by modern humans. In conclusion, as we know, Agriculture is
linked in everything in between for this is how and why we live by since this is our food consumption.
