Ethics Performance Task

1. What do you see as the purpose of the Code of Ethics and Principles of
Professional Conduct of the Education Profession of Florida?
a. The purpose of the Code of Ethics and Principles of Professional Conduct of
the Education Profession of Florida is to ensure that teachers are
conducting themselves in a manner where their students are safe and not
judged in their learning environment. It is important to follow these
guidelines because they are set to make sure that teachers and students are
safe and respected.
2. What is a specific detailed example from this semester when you demonstrated
being an ethical educator?
a. A student said something disrespectful in class and it was not in their
character to usually do something like this. Instead of calling the student out
in front of the whole class and bringing unneeded extra attention to them, I
waited until there was a time I could bring them to the side and ask what
was going on and if they thought what they said was kind. The student had
stuff going on at home and it was affecting his attitude in school. We sat
down and discussed this and got to the bottom of it without embarrassing
them in front of the whole class and teaching the student how to regulate
their emotions in a one on one conversation with them.
3. How is each specific example connected to the Code of Ethics?
a. This connects to the Code of Ethics because I did not intentionally
embarrass or shame my student and instead had a private conversation
with them to see what was going on and how we can fix the problems that
we were having.
