3. Use the supplied mounting hardware to install both bridge carriers to the front and rear gradient
carriers.
Refer to Figure 18 for an example how to mount these carriers to the gradient carrier.
8.1 GENERAL
The gradient strips must be installed on the rear ring frame and the gradient cable suspension.
For installation details, refer to drawing Z6-4.3 and Z6-4.4 of the section 22.
CAUTION
Make sure that the gradient coil terminals are clean and free of dirt and/or resin.
Also make sure that the connection spots at the ends of the gradient strips are free of fiber glass tape
insulation.
The fiber glass tape must NOT get under the washers of the gradient connections.
If the fiber glass tape insulation needs to be trimmed off, use a small sharp scalpel.
You must wear safety goggles in case the scalpel blade breaks.
________________
The clamping blocks are fixated to the ring frame using screws and using Nord-Lock washers, see Figure 22.
The correct torque of 2 to 3 Nm must be applied to the screws. See Table 1 and Figure 22.
NOTE
The 1.5 T-systems are supplied with gradient strips which have taped isolation, as shown in the pictures in
this chapter.
The 3.0 T- and XR-systems are supplied with bus bars with epoxy potted isolation.
These bus bars are form/fit identical to the gradient strips.
________________
Apply a torque of
2-3 Nm to the screws
The Nord-Lock washer prevents that the nut will get loose due to vibrations. To ensure a correct locking of the
nut, the Nord-Lock washers must be installed as shown in Figure 1.
This unique bolt securing system uses tension to make the bolt self-locking.
CAUTION
For an overview of the brackets used to install the left hand side strips, see Figure 24
Notice that all metal brackets already have insulation plates glued to it.
Procedure:
1. Remove the nuts and washers from the left hand side gradient coil terminals.
2. Hold the Z strip assembly in position and install the washers and first nut hand-tight to the gradient
coil terminal.
3. Put the clamping insulation under the strip and install the ‘clamping block bore’, using two M6
screws (30 mm) and two pairs of Nord-Lock rings, see Figure 24.

10.1 PICU-FRONT
Only the PICU-front for 1.5 T systems can be installed either at the left- or right hand side of the magnet.
For the 3.0 T and XR systems it is mandatory to install the PICU on the left hand side.
WARNING
For 3T and XR systems the PICU must be mounted at the left-hand side of the magnet only,
A wrong mounted PICU will cause patient burnings in a 3T configuration.
For XR a wrong mounted PICU will give problems during the upgrade to 3.0T.
_______________
For a factory-assembled system the PICU is prepared for the left side.
Refer to Z6-4.1 of section 22.
The Picu front for the Intera configuration is supplied with extra brackets
Consider the following remarks for a left- or right hand side PICU (1.5 T only):
• The customer might want the PICU at the same side of the system where the entrance door is.
• When a trolley is used, you prefer to have the PICU at the other side.
• When the PICU is at the same side were the coil cabinet is positioned it will make it easier for the
operator.
For a right hand side PICU the following must be taken (1.5 T only, not for XR)
• Remove the Basic Triggering Unit (BTU) from the right hand side from the ring frame, and mount it at the
left hand side on the ring frame.
• The head coil and neck coil must be converted for the right-hand side PICU.
• The ODU connectors and the physiology box in the PICU must be changed.
• Change the two mounting brackets.
• Change the physiology box with coil connector C.
• New Position coil connector C is R-MC1-X30.
• Change the coil connectors MC1-X31 with MC1-X32.
• New position coil connector A is R-MC1-X32.
• New position coil connector B (if applicable) is R-MC1-X31.
• Change the cable-routing, refer to section 9 for the correct cable-routing at the magnet.
10.2 PICU-REAR
The PICU rear can only be mounted on the right hand side. The PICU must be mounted at the rear ring
cover, therefore the ring cover must be installed first.
2. Mount the temperature-humidity sensor bracket on the ring frame (see Figure 41) using the mounting
hardware (two Allen screws M4 x 10 mm, spring-washers and washers),
3. Connect the cable temperature sensor cable MMA-X4 – MST-X1 (4522 132 32123).
Do not use the cable MMA-X1 – MST-X1,
4. Fasten the sensor cable with tie-wraps to the tie-wrap supports on the indicated positions
(see Figure 41).
1. Position the large insulation plate on the pad closest to the magnet.

2. Position the patient support on top of the floor pads and the large insulation plate (1).
3. Insert one insulation spacer (2) between front patient support frame and floor pad.
4. Mount the four threaded rods (3).
5. Slide the insulation tubes (4) over the threaded rods (3).
6. Mount the fixation plate (5) (10 mm thick).
7. Mount fixation block (6). The hole in the fixation block is not in the center.
This is done to allow the use of this fixation block within the U-profile legs.
The lower covers will be mounted tightly against these vertical u-bars. Therefore the patient support
table mounting material must be installed within the u-bar.
8. Mount insulation washer (7), washer (8), lock washer (9) and nut (10). Do not tighten the nuts yet.
9. For positioning the table you need power, this will be done by the Philips engineer.
10. Do not mount the lower covers yet.
Verify with a digital multi-meter if the Patient support frame is galvanically insulated from the RF enclosure.
You can measure between table frame and floor pads. R > 200 kOhm. Record the measured data in the
Insulation measurements list in the MRL (Section 21).
The Comfort Zone module is optional, but if delivered it can be mounted together with the other modules.
NOTE
To prevent the modules being damaged by static discharge, use the ESD kit.

11. Install the cover.
12. Install the blind cover at the left hand side.
13. Route the cables via the right hand side and connect them.
14. Install all the covers.
Before shimming the magnet, the patient support must be positioned in front of the magnet
in the upper position.
________________
The "travel to scan-plane" is a fixed value, therefore the patient support table must be positioned at a fixed
distance from the magnet.
Check/adjust the distance between the patient support and the magnet gradient carrier to 181 mm +/- 5 mm.
This distance is determined during the magnet installation.
When the template was used and the magnet has been positioned carefully, the distance should be correct.
Depending on the accuracy of the patient pads (screw holes), as done by the RF cage supplier, a small
adjustment might be possible by shifting the patient support.

The patient support Intera or Achieva is delivered in its upper operating position.
It is not necessary to move the patient support upwards electrically before executing the height adjustment.
Both adjustments can be executed without the patient support cables connected.
Plane A is the running surface of the inner bed. The running surface of the patient support must be 1 mm
above the running surface A of the inner bed when there is no load on the table.

To achieve both the vertical and longitudinal alignment, perform the following actions:
• Place the two wooden yellow laths (supplied with the patient support) on the running surface of the
patient support together with a spirit level.
Adjust the height of the patient table (with the delivered level shims under the patient table frame) such,
that there is a 1 mm gap (use a 1 mm spacer) between the laths and the running surface of the bridge
section.
Measure a few centimeters behind the sloping surface of the bridge section.

Fix the patient support to the floor by tightening the four nuts.
Adjust the threaded rod near the vertical actuator (see Figure 56), such that it touches the isolation plate on
the floor. Do this manually, so: hand tight.
Now the patient support frame can withstand downwards forces of the vertical actuator. Lock the nut in order
to lock the threaded rod.

• Check the alignment without a load and with a load of ± 100 kg, by moving the tabletop in and out by
hand. No bumping or scraping may be felt.
If a hospital has two or more systems close to each other, and a trolley option is used, an operator must be
able to determine which table top belongs to which system. Identification stickers are therefore supplied with
each table top. These stickers must be glued on the patient support and on each table top.
Glue one sticker (MR1) on the patient support of system 1. Glue another sticker [MR1] on a tabletop belonging
to system 1. If there is more than one table top for system 1 then also glue a sticker [MR1] on those tabletops.
Do the same for system 2 (sticker [MR2]) and system 3 (sticker [MR3]) if present.
