other banks in the industry. This will help us to fill or become part in filling the loop holes if any in the
Bank.

Executive Summary
Bank AL Habib was incorporated as a Public Limited Company in October 1991 and started banking
operations in 1992. The Late Hamid D. Habib, grandson of the founder of Habib Group, was the first
Chairman of Bank AL Habib Limited. He was the Director in Habib Bank Limited from 1954 and its
chairman from 1971 until its nationalization.
In a short span of time, the Bank's assets have grown to more than PKR 1 trillion, with a network of 950
branches and sub-branches, a Wholesale Branch in the Kingdom of Bahrain, Seychelles and Malaysia and
Representative Offices in Dubai, Istanbul, Beijing, and Kenya.
This report covers the introduction and products knowledge of three commercial banks of Pakistan.
These three banks include Bank Al Habib Limited, Samba Bank Limited and NBP. We have stated the
introduction of all the banks including their establishment and brief history. It includes comparison of
Deposits, advances branch network, profit, Income, deposit products, consumer finance products and
ADC products of three banks.
We have conducted the SWOT Analysis of Bank Al Habib Limited and stated various strengths,
weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. In the last part, the report contains the overall conclusion of
this project and graphs are added to clearly understand the standing of banks based on figures.
Introduction
Bank AL Habib was incorporated as a Public Limited Company in October 1991 and started banking
operations in 1992. The Late Hamid D. Habib, grandson of the founder of Habib Group, was the first
Chairman of Bank AL Habib Limited. He was the Director in Habib Bank Limited from 1954 and its
chairman from 1971 until its nationalization.
After the death of Mr. Hamid D. Habib in May 2000, Mr. Ali Raza D. Habib, who was Director on the
Board, he was appointed the Chairman of the Bank, a position he continued to hold till October 2016.
The Late Rashid D. Habib, who was the Managing Director of Habib Bank Limited from 1953 till its
nationalization, was appointed as the Managing Director & Chief Executive of Bank AL Habib Limited
until he passed away in 1994.
After his demise, Mr. Abbas D. Habib, the Joint Managing Director, and a close associate of Bank AL
Habib since its inception in 1991, was appointed as the Managing Director and the Chief Executive of the
Bank. He currently holds the prestigious position of Chairman of the Board of Directors while Mr.
Mansoor A. Khan has been appointed as Chief Executive effective November 1, 2016
As of March 2022 the total assets of the bank are Rs.1.85 trillion with a network of 1017 branches.
The Long term rating of the Bank is AAA and short term is A1+.

National Bank of Pakistan (the Bank) was established on November 09, 1949 under the National Bank of
Pakistan Ordinance, 1949 and is listed on the Pakistan Stock Exchange. The Bank’s Registered and Head
Office is situated at Karachi. The Bank is engaged in providing commercial banking and related services
in Pakistan and overseas. The Bank also handles treasury transactions for the Government of Pakistan as
an agent to the State Bank of Pakistan. The Bank operates 1675 domestic branches in Pakistan and 19
overseas branches (including the Export Processing Zone branch, Karachi). The Bank has a wide local and
international outreach through a network of branches, ATMs, subsidiaries, representative offices,

This segment provides underwriting, privatization, merger and acquisition, securitization, research, debt

Samba Bank Limited
Samba Bank Limited is a majority owned subsidiary of Samba Financial Group of Saudi Arabia. Samba's
vision is to become a household name in Pakistan by winning customer business through high quality
services and innovative products. Samba is focused on building a full-service consumer, corporate,
investment banking and capital markets franchise. Currently, Samba is working to expand its products
and services across the consumer, corporate, investment banking and global markets. Samba has a
highly experienced senior management team capable of ensuring that the bank becomes and remains

branches in 14 major cities of Pakistan
1980 Citibank becomes Saudi American Bank following a Royal Decree. Citibank retains 40%
ownership and manages the bank through a Technical Management Agreement. The remaining majority
shareholding was owned by Saudi.
1999 Samba merges with United Saudi Bank creating one of the largest financial institutions in the
Middle East, of which Citibank owned 22.83%.
2003 The Technical Management Agreement with Citibank ends and Samba comes under full local
management on October 31, 2003. To mark this important milestone, the business is officially renamed
Samba Financial Group or Samba - a name that its loyal customers
2004 Citibank sells its last remaining 20% shareholding to local investors.
2007 • Samba acquires a majority stake (68.4%) in Crescent Commercial Bank in Pakistan,
• Samba creates Samba Capital, a new specialized investment house in Saudi Arabia.
2009 Samba Financial Group launches a new Corporate Social Responsibility strategy with a series of
training programs for university and institute graduates to promote their employment opportunities
through comprehensive training courses.

The current deposit portfolio of Bank al Habib is 10% less and 2422% higher as compared to NBP and
Samba Bank respectively. In case of branches to deposit ratio and customer portfolio NBP has less
current deposit as compared to Bank al Habib which is a positive thing for Bank al Habib.
Savings Deposits
The savings deposit of Bank al Habib is 48% less and 1964% higher as compared to NBP and Samba Bank
respectively. In case of branches to deposit ratio and customer portfolio Bank al Habib as less saving
deposit as compared to NBP.
Term Deposit
The term deposit of Bank al Habib is 42% lesser and 609% higher as compared to NBP and Samba Bank
respectively. In case of branches to deposit and customer portfolio Bank al Habib has less saving term
deposits as compared to NBP. It shows that Bank al Habib is focused on short term advances and NBP is
focused on Long term advances.
The below table shows percentage difference of Bank al Habib as compared with NBP and Samba Bank.
The advances of Bank al Habib in this category are 53% lesser and 631% higher as compared to NBP and
Samba Bank respectively. Due to higher branch ratio NBP has offered more in this category to both
banks.
The Islamic financing of Bank al Habib is 111% higher than NBP. This shows that Bank al Habib is
completely focused on Islamic Banking along with conventional which is requirement of SBP. Samba
Bank has no focus on Islamic Banking in Pakistan currently.
Advances-Gross
The gross advances of Bank al Habib are 45% lesser and 794% higher as compared to NBP and Samba
Bank respectively. Due to higher number of branches and being one of the oldest bank in Pakistan NBP
has higher deposits and so higher advances. In case of Samba Bank Bank al Habib as 8 times greater
lending.
Advances-net of provision
The net advances after deducting provisioning of Bank al Habib are 37% lesser and 824% higher than
NBP and Samba Bank. It means that provisioning of NBP as compared to advances is very high and this is
a negative thing for NBP. On the other hand, Bank al Habib has very low provision of advances. It further
clarifies that Bank al Haib has a very low Customer default ratio due to strong credit policies.
The Bank operates with a network of total 1017 branches including 29 sub-branches,04 representative
offices and 03 booths. The branch network of the Bank includes 02 overseas branches and 142 Islamic
branches.
The Bank operates 1,675 branches in Pakistan and 19 overseas branches(including the Export Processing
Zone branch, Karachi).

The markup income of Bank al Habib is 38% lesser and 1375% higher as compared to NBP and Samba
Bank respectively. As compared to deposit the interest income of Bank al Habib is higher than NBP. It
means that Bank al Habib is lending funds and investing in efficient as compared to NBP and Samba Bank
which is a positive thing for the bank.
The non-markup income of Bank al Habib is 49% lesser and 1149% higher than NBP and Samba Bank
respectively. The non-markup income of Bank al Habib is not so much efficient as compared to markup
income which means that Bank al Habib is lenient in extra charges to customers which are a part of Non
markup income which further means that Bank al Habib takes care of its customer the most.
Total Income
The total income of Bank al Habib is 40% lesser and 1322% higher as compared to NBP and Samba Bank
respectively.
Operating Expenses
The operating expenses of Bank al Habib are 30% lesser and 1140% higher as compared to NBP and
Samba Bank respectively. It means that expenses of Bank al Habib are a little bit higher when compared
with deposits.
The interest expenses of Bank al Habib are 29% lesser and 1144% higher as compared to NBP and Samba
Bank respectively. If we compare interest expenses of Bank al Habib with interest income of all banks
then we conclude that expenses are lesser than income so this is a positive thing for all banks.
The PBT of Bank al Habib is 49% lesser and 1919% higher as compared to NBP and Samba Bank
respectively.
The PAT of Bank al Habib is 50% lesser and 1933% higher as compared to NBP and Samba Bank
respectively. It reveals the net efficiency of a bank. The PAT of NBP is almost double of Bank al Habib and
it means that Bank al Habib has to work more to decrease its expenses and grab more deposit to lend
them.
In case of Samba Bank al Habib has earned almost 20 times more net profit.
Samba bank is one of the smallest bank in Pakistan with only 44 branches and limited services so in
every aspect Samba Bank is far away from Bank al Habib and NBP.
Non performing Loans (NPL’S) Comparison

Interpretations of NPL’s
OAEM is classification of non-performing loans in Small enterprises (SE) category. Bank al Habib is the
only bank in this comparison which finances small enterprises. NBP and Samba bank has no financing in
SE’s. This is an edge of Bank al Habib over these two banks.
Substandard
Substandard loans are those which are overdue by 90 days. Bank al Habib has very few substandard loan
as compared to advances. In case NBP the ratio of substandard loans as compared to advances is high
which is not good for the bank. In case of Samba Bank, the ratio of substandard loans is also high as
compared to its advances, same as the case in NBP. So, it is concluded that Bank al Habib is very safe in
terms of lending due to its efficient credit policies.
Provisioning done for substandard debts is 25% as per SBP’s Prudential Regulations.
Doubtful
Doubtful loans are those which re overdue by 180 days. Bank al Habib has a low ratio of doubtful loans
as compared to its advances. In case of NBP the ratio is higher as compared to its advances and similar in
the case of Samba Bank. Doubtful loans are alarming situation for banks as the customer is near to
default and the bank must take adequate measures to reschedule or restructure the debt timely.
Provisioning done for doubtful debts is 50% as per SBP’s Prudential Regulations.
Loss
Loans classified as loss are those which are overdue by 1year and 6months( in case of Trade bills). Bank
al Habib also has a very low ratio of loans classified as loss and this reveals the truth of strong credit
measurements of bank. In case of NBP and Samba Bank the ratio is higher as compared to their deposits
respectively. Loan classified as loss means that customer has defaulted completely.
Provisioning done for loans classifies as loss is 100% as per SBP’s Prudential Regulations.

example is that now they are offering young saver account to attract the youth for growing banking.
Bank AL Habib always play on safer side in banking industry. Bank AL Habib have less than 1 percent of
non-performing loans which shows the debit worthiness of Al Habib customer.
Bank AL Habib main strategy is that they always attract the old customers. We by providing special rates
on every product as compare with other banks. They are also fulfilling the corporate social
