ABSTRACT
In Philippines, Public markets are also known as palengke. Palengke was borrowed from the Spanish
term “Palenque” which means a marketplace where people sell goods and services to the public for consumptions.
It was the interaction between buyers and sellers that made the palengke an existent living place. Then there is
this what we called “suki” also known as shoppers who become good friends with the vendors. It happens when a
client often buys from the same vendor, getting discounts and receiving information on a newly products.
“Public markets exist to fulfill a public purpose, showcase a community’s unique character and culture
while serving its everyday shopping needs” (Zaretsky, 2012). In other words, people are more likely enjoy buying
goods when there is a public transportation access to the public market. With a transportation terminal,
palengkera (the customers) will easily access the public market without any obstruction.

Key words: Palenque, Suki, Palengkera, Palengke
