What is diabetes?

Diabetes is a chronic metabolic disease marked by high blood glucose

(also known as blood sugar), which over time can seriously harm the
heart, blood vessels, eyes, kidneys, and nerves. Type two diabetes is the
most prevalent type and typically affects adults. It develops when the
body stops producing enough insulin or becomes resistant to it. Type two
diabetes prevalence has sharply increased over the past three decades in
nations of all income levels. Juvenile diabetes or insulin-dependent
diabetes, also known as type 1 diabetes, is a chronic condition in which
the pancreas produces little to no insulin on its own. For those who have
diabetes, having access to affordable medical care, including insulin, is
essential to their survival. Affects both individuals and society as a
whole, having a significant impact on the health care systems.
