Dear Keith, I am writing to you to implore Trustpower to reconnect the electricity at the address of 520 Honeymoon Valley, Kaitaia. I humbly apologise for any confusion that has arisen on the account of Mr. Simon Kaiwai at this address. At the time, there was much going on in my familys life including my wife being late stage pregnant. Please consider the information below in your decision to resupply us with electricity: 1/ The address of 520 Honeymoon Valley has two households supplied by mains power off one account. I represent one of the households (the Kaiwai family), am renting the property, and have two children under three; one is a newborn. 2/ Both households are adversely affected to a significant degree without electricity. We are dependent on going to other houses and using their electricity to perform many basic functions of life. 3/ I promise you that no one from either household used a stick or threatened to use a stick against any electricity workers or anyone else. 4/ The account was not paid before the first disconnection attempt because: i/ On the last day of payment I only had my credit card with me at the post shop and so could not pay in cash only as stipulated. ii/ When I called to pay the day after (Oct 15), a Trustpower representative argued that the supply was disconnected and refused to accept any payment. I pleaded to pay as I did not want any risk to my family. When I told her my wife was due she said "can't you go somewhere else?". I knew the electricity was connected because my computer was on, I was using a cordless phone, and I switched on a light bulb. The Trustpower representative remained adamant that the disconnection had been performed, mentioned that extra fees were applicable for the disconnection, and told me I needed to speak with the credit department. 5/ The electrician who came, a full day later on October 16, was trespassed from the property to prove that the electricity was still on. He left amicably. 6/ I always intended to pay and was simply awaiting a true bill because the account balance was changing every time I spoke with an agent. 7/ I was confused on receiving yet another disconnection notice on 3rd November,2009 which did not consider the medical risk nor include the true bill as requested. I replied with the fax on November 5th for which I have a delivery confirmation.

7/ I received no response or further notice prior to the electricity being cut off on November 11th, 2009. The electrician did not make us aware of his presence on the property nor tell us before he disconnected it. I was also surprised by the presence of a police officer. At no stage did I initiate or retaliate to physical contact, nor was I threatening in my language to either the electrician or the police officer. Why did you authorise a surprise and police escorted disconnection when we were in discussion, there was and had been no threat of violence? 8/ Feeling desperate as my wife was due any day, I drove into Kaitaia on Friday 13th November 2009 and paid cash in excess with no proof of itemised charges, in an attempt to get the power back on. After paying, I called Trustpower and was informed that I was no longer able to be a customer. It seems that Trustpower will not supply electricity to a location with anyone from the Kaiwai family as occupant. Is this true? 9/ Needing electricity, I then called Contact Energy who were going to provide me with an account, but after speaking with Trustpower (while I held on the line) also refused service. Are we on some sort of black list? 10/ As it stands, there is no electricity at 520 Honeymoon Valley, Kaitaia. The title holder for the address has had her account cut off and seems unable to secure service. Is this because we still occupy at the address? In the light of day, I would do things much differently and again humbly apologise for any confusion which has contributed to the handling of the accounts at this address. I just want the electricity back for all affected. What do you need to reinstate the electricity?

With regards,

Simon Kaiwai 09 408 5570 (Home) 520 Honeymoon Valley RD2 Kaitaia
