SCHOOL ACTIVITY PROPOSAL

I. Title: GUNYAN NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL UNITED NATIONS DAY

CELEBRATION 2022
II. Date: November 4 and 11, 2022
III. Proponent: Araling Panlipunan Department of the school
IV. Rationale:
The United Nations Organization puts it, the United Nations Day is an important day in the
UN calendar. It marks the anniversary of the entry into force in 1945 of the UN Charter. With the
ratification of this founding document by the majority of its signatories, including the five permanent
members of the Security Council, the United Nations officially came into being. The UN sets the
year 2022 as the International Year for Sustainable Mountain Development which focuses on
thriving the mountain peoples and the whole planet as mentioned by Antonio Guterres, the UN
Secretary General. The recent year marks the organization’s 77th anniversary.
The Philippines, being a member of the organization, supports the significance of the UN
Day through Proclamation No. 98, s. 1948 by the former President, Elpidio Quirino, in which he
called upon all Filipino citizens, all national, provincial and municipal officials, all teachers in
public and private schools and all other elements in this country, public or private, local or
foreign, to give their support and co-operation in order that the aims of the United Nations Day
may be carried out successfully.
It is the foregoing statements that entitle Gunyan National High School to hold an event
underpinning the celebration. The school believes that the celebration is culturally, socially,
emotionally, mentally, and morally beneficial to its learners since it signifies that humans from
the different parts of the world can come together united by their shared values of love, justice,
and peace and that diverse cultures, traditions, races, and languages can unite as one family to
serve humanity. With this, the school’s theme for the celebration is:
“Embracing Diversity and Coming as One Family to Serve Humanity.”

V. Objectives:
This activity aims to attain the following objectives:
1. spread awareness among learners about the significance of United Nations and its
works and functions;
2. appreciate diversity;
3. make aware of various cultures, and how people from different parts of the world can
co-exist; and,
4. commemorate the formation of a new era in history – an era where equality, peace, and
cooperation are valued above.
