EVALUATION

Direction: Answer the following questions below. (10 points each)

ITEM #1: If something is bothering you about life matters: academics, relationships, family, identity, and
financial concerns, with whom will you share your problem? Will you pursue a formal help or a
nonformal help? Why or why not?

I'm going to seek informal help, perhaps from my mother. I have a good relationship with my
family, so I can talk about any problem I'm bearing knowing that my parents, especially my
mother, will listen and never invalidate my feelings. She can also provide me with sensible
advice. My mother doesn't mind if I open up about anything, whether it's academic, relationship,
family, identity, or financial concerns. I am grateful for her open-mindedness; for example, when
I came out as gay, she did not disown me, as other parents did when their child came out as
homosexual. In fact, my mother never puts academic pressure on me as long as she knows I'm
doing my best in school. If I ever have financial problems, she always makes sure she does
something about it. Although seeking formal assistance from a professional is an option, I feel
more at ease discussing personal issues with my mother. I know that her advice and opinions are
not motivated by anything other than genuine concern and affection.

ITEM #2: “Counseling aims to empower the client by helping him/her make critical decisions in life,
develop ability to cope, enhance effectiveness and improve quality of life.” What do you think about this
statement? Do you accept or support it? How will it empower you?
This is a statement that I personally agree with. Counseling helps a lot of people. By listening to
their clients and making them feel valid, these people become productive and help them make
big decisions because they start to trust themselves. Counseling can also help people gain
confidence so that they don't feel anxious when interacting with other people. These counselors
are sometimes the ones who give them hope when they don't think there is any hope at all. Their
simple kindness and compassion for their client is already meaningful. It inspire us to become a
better person, because being a better person can be a good daughter or a good member of the
society. You never know what other people are going through, so being kind and listening to
them shouldn't be too much to ask.
