Consumers’ Rights

Consumer denotes any individual who needs or places an order for products (goods

and services ) for direct consumption instead of manufacturing, production, or resale. Better

service to consumers is the primary goal of all business organizations since, with better

services that can meet the need of their clients, they can operate effectively. Therefore, it

means that every consumer has a right that they expect from an organization that services

them. Moreover, consumers' requests are lawful. Any organization that has violated such

rights might be sued in a court of law. Thus, this study aims to discuss consumers' rights and

give detailed examples and their importance.

Right to security and safety

This right defends consumers against any injury a product might cause them; it

depicts that the product consumers use should not harm their lives. Product owners should

ensure that they give proper prescriptions or descriptions on how their products should be

used by those clients that use such products (Terryn, 2019). Thus, this category of consumer

rights is the first and vital right that manufacturers of the product should not violate. For

example, food and beverage companies must show ingredients used to make the food and

beverages so that conditions like allergies are not shown among their clients. Suppose any

product has harmed a consumer and the product designer or manufacturer did not inform the

consumer how to use such product. In that case, the consumer has a right to sue that

manufacturer. Therefore, this right's benefit is ensuring that products are not harmful.

Manufacturers must only produce products that support and improve consumers' health

conditions. Thus, producers must adhere to standard production.

Right of choice ( to choose )

There is intense competition among businesses concerning the sales of their products

to their clients. Some companies try to lure and use all the means to get other clients that like
3

their competitors' products to buy them. The government ensures that there are competitive

environments that favor all businesses by eliminating problems that are created by

monopolies in the market. Thus, this right suggests that the producer should not force

consumers to buy a product they do not like but have the right to pick and use what they want

(Dāvida, 2020). For example, let us say a consumer who likes products from Coca-Cola has

the right to use Pepsi products if unsatisfied with what Coca-Cola has offered. Another

example is when a retailer has ordered some goods from a given company, and the quantity

and quality do not meet his demand, he is allowed to reject and pick other products that meet

his requirements. Hence, this right is vital since it ensures that consumers are not forced with

what they do not like but are free to choose what favors their needs.

Right to get complete information.

Concerning this right, consumers should get complete and detailed information to

make a sound decision about anything they would like to know and understand since full

details will cause them to decide whether to buy or to leave purchasing any product (Dāvida,

2020). For instance, clothing manufacturing companies should ensure that they show or

indicate the type of materials like cotton and fibers used in their clothing so that clients

should not complain of any problems. Clients will decide whether to buy their clothes if they

show such materials since they have complete information. Therefore, this right's importance

is to give consumers detailed information for sound decision-making.

Right to be listened to and heard.

This right signifies that consumers' complaints must be addressed by the companies

they have acquired their products (Terryn, 2019). Any complaints and problems that any

client might have should be taken seriously by the service provider or product designers, and

this is what the service providers call the right to listen to. For instance, suppose one has

bought a car after a few hours of the day of purchasing, but the vehicle has failed to operate
4

correctly. The individual should go back and tell the car dealers about the matter and should

be heard, and his case must be solved because the cart has yet to take long, nor has its warrant

expired. Therefore, this category of consumers right is also vital since it ensures that

consumer complaints are addressed, and their needs are fully satisfied through the usage of

the products.

Right to get better service.

This right means that there should not be any favoritism in terms of the company's

services. Thus, consumers should be treated equally and fairly without discrimination created

through gender, age, race, level of education, and other related forms (Aprilianti, 2020). For

example, online service providers should not practice racism as they give and deliver their

products to various consumers because they meet several individuals from different races that

need their services. Thus, they need to offer their services as fast as possible as per the need

of their clients. This type of consumer is critical since consumers are protected from

discrimination, poor product or service delivery from companies, and other points that make

them not get better services. Thus, online giant service providers like Amazon should ensure

that their clients get faster and more prompt service delivery.

Right to clients' (consumers) education

Consumers also have the right to be taught and have complete knowledge about any

trend that takes place in the current market. Thus, this type of education ensures that

consumers know how the market situations are changing every time, and the market players

must provide such education. For example, service providers should inform their clients

about market situations like prices, change in producers' locations, and other issues so that

consumers understand such differences. Therefore, producers are accountable for failing to

inform their clients about any change in the market (Aprilianti, 2020). Hence, this category of
5

consumer rights is significant since it makes producers tell their clients about any concern in

the market at a given point since a failure to do that violates the market policy and regulation.

In conclusion, every product producer must ensure that they respect every consumer's

rights since violating such rights leads to unfavorable market conditions for consumers and

product producers. Laws should also be reinforced so that clients get the right services from

businesses. Moreover, consumers should also know the types of rights they should get from

the service providers and understand how to address any complaint concerning such a

problem. Finally, consumers' rights are fundamental since they ensure they are served with

respect and high-quality products.
