year BSED major in English and I will be your
practice teacher in this lesson.

Anyway class, do you have an assignment? did you

passed it already? if not please be reminded that
you need to pass your assignment for you to be
able to have a score.

By the class all of your participation will be recorded

and serve as your grade for today’s lesson that’s
why I am encouraging you to be active in class
discussion.
Okay let’s start to our discussion.
B. Review/Recall of Past Discussion

Okay, who can still remember the topic on the

previous discussion? can anyone of you share
something about it?

Okay thank you so much.

So last time you already discussed the adjectives (The student will answer the
right? So, what is an adjective again? definition of adjective)

That’s correct, an adjective is a word that modifies

a noun or a pronoun. In general, the purpose of an
adjective is to describe a noun or pronoun and
provide more information about it.
Adjectives provide answers to questions such as
“What kind?” “Which one?” and “Whose is it?”

At this moment, I have prepared a short activity

before we proceed to the main discussion. All eyes
on the PowerPoint presentation please.
C. Motivation

D. Presentation and Discussion

First, we have the objectives.

So, at the end of the lesson the students are able
to:

1. Identify the adverbs in the given text;

2. Construct a paragraph using adverbs;
3. Recognize the kind of verb used in the sentence.

These are the talking point

First, we will discuss the definition of adverbs.
second, we will be discussing the types of adverbs,
then the position of adverbs and of course the
order of adverbs in a sentence. An adverb is a word that is used
to change, modify or qualify
So, let’s begin at its definition, who wants to read? several types of words including
an adjective, a verb, a clause,
another adverb, or any other
type of word or phrase, with the
exception of determiners and
adjectives, that directly modify
nouns.

Kindly read A good way to understand

adverbs is to think about them
as the words that provide
context. Specifically, adverbs
provide a description of how,
where, when, in what manner
and to what extent something is
done or happens. Normally, we
can spot an adverb by the fact
that it often ends in –ly, but
there are lots of adverbs that
don’t end in this way. Moreover,
adverbs can be used in many
combinations with each other.

Okay thank you so much.

An adverb is a word that used to
modify verbs, adjectives, clauses, and other
adverbs. Many adverbs end in -ly, and they usually
appear next to the word that they modify.
Adverbs are a commonly used part of speech that,
like adjectives, provide more information in a
sentence or clause by modifying (describing)
another word. Adverbs are used to answer
questions such as How?, Where?, When?, How
often?, and How much?
We have here the types of adverbs

 Adverbs Of Manner
 Adverbs Of Place
 Adverbs Of Frequency
 Adverbs Of Time
 Adverbs Of Degree
 Adverbs Of Reason

We will discuss it one by one and we will be starting

at adverb of manner.

An adverb of manner will explain

how an action is carried out.
Kindly read Very often adverbs of manner
are adjectives with -ly added to
the end, but this is certainly not
always the case. In fact, some
adverbs of manner will have the
same spelling as the adjective
form.

It says here that adverb of manner is an adverb that

shows how someone does something or how
something happens.

Examples:
She passed the exam easily.
They walk quickly to catch the train.
The dinner party went badly.
John answered the question correctly.

In the given examples the adverbs are easily,

quickly, badly and correctly because they described
how the action being happened.
An adverb of place, sometimes
Next we have an adverb of place. Kindly read. called spatial adverbs, will help
explain where an action
happens. Adverbs of place will
be associated with the action of
the verb in a sentence, providing
context for direction, distance
and position: southeast,
everywhere, up, left, close by,
back, inside, around. These
terms don’t usually end in -ly.

Adverb of place are the words that describe or

explain where the action happened. These words
are not end in ly.

In the example, New York is located  north  of

Philadelphia. The adverb here in a sentence is the
word north because it describe where the New York
is located at. Do you understand class?

Okay thank you.

Another example is, They traveled  down  the

mountainside. The adverb here in a sentence is
the word down because it describe where in the
mountainside they traveled. Do you understand
class? Okay than you. So these two examples are
under the adverb of place at direction.

● Jane is moving far away.

● Carly is sitting close to me.
The adverb of place in the sentences are far away
and close because they describe the distance of
both subjects which is jane and Carly. Another
explanation in this is the word far away add
information to the verb moving, so moving far away
and the adverb close describe how long the
distance of action is being described.

Next we have here examples of position under

adverb of place.

● The treasure lies underneath the box.

● The cat is sleeping on the bed.
● Why are you standing in the middle of the
dancefloor?
The adverbs here are underneath, on and in.
Adverbs of place in position can be directional, Adverbs of frequency are used

always, and normally.

An adverb describing indefinite frequency doesn't

specify an exact time frame.

I will always love you.
In this examples, the word normally and always Adverbs of definite frequency are

occurs.
Next we have definite frequency. Kindly read.

In the examples
● We get paid hourly.
● The situation seems to change monthly.
● The newspaper is bought daily.
The adverbs of definite frequency are hourly,
monthly and daily because they described how long Adverbs of time, while

Adverbs of time are usually
placed at the end of a sentence.

Adverbs of time tell us at what time (when) or for

how long (duration) something happens or is the
case.

In the examples

answers the question ‘to what
extent’.

Adverbs of degree are used to indicate

the intensity, degree, or extent of the verb,
adjective, or adverb they are modifying.

We have here some examples.

 Mikki is very tall.
 The buttermilk we had was too cold.
 Gowtham had almost completed his work.
In sentence number one, the adverb of degree is
the word very, in the next sentence the adverb is
the word too. in the last sentence we have an
adver almost. They are the adverb of degree

also clauses – so that, in order
to. Notice in the examples that
the adverbs of purpose are used
to connect sentences that
wouldn’t make sense if they
were formed alone.

In the examples
 I started jogging so that I wouldn’t be late.
 Because I was late, I jogged a little faster.
 Since it’s your birthday, I will buy you a gift.
The adverbs of purpose in the sentences are so
that, because and since because these words help
described why the action is being happen and they
connect the thoughts to complete the sentence.

Next we have Order of Adverbs

Adverb order is so important it has clear
rules. It’s already mentioned that some adverbs will
act to modify another, but how do you decide the
structure of a sentence with several adverbs?
Thankfully, there is a simple set of rules to follow,
called the order of adverbs. Handily, the order of

Knowing and understanding the function of an

adverb is significant in our daily lives because we
