Report on the work experience programme

Introduction

The focus of this report is trainees’ given tasks and activities they take part
in, while participating in the work experience programme in an international hotel
chain, as well as recommendations which may result in improvements concerning
future programmes.

Tasks and activities

As soon as everyone arrived, we had little time to settle in before we were

given some smart uniforms and were asked to start working immediately. At first,
everyone was given a very particular task they had to do, but as time went on, we
were asked to switch places with certain people in order to fully experience every
aspect of what it takes to work in a well-developed business. Having finished the
physical duties, everyone worked in the back office, assisting with various
administrative tasks.

Complications

Although at first the programme must have seemed very appealing for
someone who desires to gain experience, no one could deny that the continuous
heavy workload was quite overwhelming. This resulted in a stressful atmosphere,
which might have prevented some of the trainees from doing their utmost when
it came to their given tasks. What is more, teachers and employees had the same
busy schedule, thus not having any time to help or answer our questions, which
was rather aggravating.

Suggestions

In order to improve the workplace environment, I highly recommend

providing trainees with additional time in which they can ask the supervisors for
advice in order to reinforce the knowledge they are expected to have achieved.
Furthermore, I strongly believe that introductory coursed should be provided for
each position, in order for the participants’ work to be easier and more effective.
