In the Mivan shuttering construction technique, the use of Aluminum
formworks, besides providing strength and durability to a structure
also reduces the overall construction time.
1. Assembling The Wall Reinforcing Steel
i. Mivan formwork is majorly used in the places where the whole structures made of
concrete.
ii. All formwork is cleaned and coated with an approved realize agents.
iii. The wall reinforcing steel is placed with the floor slab.
iv. Along with the wall reinforcing steel, prefabricated room-sized walls panels and
floor slabs panels are erected.
v. Plumb, level, and dimensions are checked.
vi. The aluminum alloy slabs are accurately made as per the required sizes.
vii. Spaces for windows, ducts, doors and other features such as staircases, façade
panels, and chajjas are also integrated into these structures.
viii. The forms are then joined together using the pin and wedge system, which can be
dismantled quickly after the concrete structure is made.

2. Placement of Aluminum Formwork

Steps in Mivan Shuttering i. After casting the forms, high-quality concrete is poured.
Construction method ii. This concrete takes the form and shape of the cast.
iii. At least two operatives should be on standby during concreting for checking pins,
wedges and wall ties as the pour is in progress.
iv. Special attention to be given while pouring concrete for dislodging of pins/wedges,
slipping of props or overspill of concrete at openings.

3. Pouring Of Concrete
i. Normally all formwork can be struck after 12 hours of concreting.
ii. First, the wall formwork is strike down, followed by deck formwork.
iii. The removed formwork is cleaned with scrapers and wire brushes as soon as
they are struck.
iv. Once cleaned, it is transported and stacked properly for the next use.
Major components of Mivan Formwork
Mivan Formwork components are divided into 4 types
based on the location of use:-
For Wall Components
a) Wall Panel, d) Rocker, c) Kickers,
and d) Stub Pin

Beam Components
a) Beam Side Panel, b) Prop Head
and panel for Soffit Beam

Deck Components
a) Deck Panels, b) Deck Prop and
Prop Length, c) Soffit Length

Other Components
The other elements used excluding the
wall, beam, and deck parts are internal
and external soffit corners, exterior and
interior edges for wall panels.
Advantages and Disadvantages of Mivan Shuttering

Advantages:

1. Mivan Formwork requires relatively Disadvantages:

less labor
2. Faster completion of floors
3. Lesser number of joints and reduced 1. Alignment maintenance needs skilled
leakages laborers
4. Smooth finishing of wall and slab 2. Initial setup takes time
5. Low maintenance 3. It is expensive and used for typical floors
6. More seismic resistance only
7. Huge carpet area 4. It needs skilled labors for alignment
8. Good quality construction work maintenance
9. Faster completion 5. Construction joints should be set properly
10. No need for plastering 6. Leakage issue like seepage, leakages
during monsoon
