MODULE 5. INNOVATION MANAGEMENT IMPLEMENTATION

Objectives:
1. To discuss what social innovation is all about.
2. To understand and identify the six social innovation fundamentals.
3. To understand and clearly discuss the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SGD).
4. To implement the so called innovation management by focusing on one specific SDG and
try to find an innovation which can be related to this SDG. Students have to invent
something which makes the world better and may create a prototype even later.

Social Innovations
Social Innovation, engages students in identifying significant global
problems and innovative solutions that drive social change.

This topic helps students understand some of the strategies that social
innovators and entrepreneurs employ to create game-changing ideas,
social impact products and services, high-impact ventures, highlighting
unique models for problem-solving that offer bold solutions to complex
and entrenched societal issues.
MODULE 5. INNOVATION MANAGEMENT IMPLEMENTATION

Social Innovations

Social innovators address problems where the government, private


sector, and traditional non-profit sector fail to achieve systemic impact.
The course considers the full spectrum of social impact and business
models, including strictly non-profit organizations, enterprises
developing revenue-generating products or services for a social goal,
and socially responsible for-profit companies. The course takes a global
perspective, including organizations from around the Philippines and
abroad.

Human-Centered Design - It is a creative approach to problem solving which puts the


user or intended beneficiary at the center of the solution

Social Entrepreneurship - It is an approach by individuals, groups, start-up


companies or entrepreneurs, in which they develop, fund and implement solutions to
social, cultural, or environmental issues. It applies the concept of entrepreneurship to
solving social problems.

Stakeholder Engagement - It is the systematic identification, analysis,
planning and implementation of actions designed to engage with all
stakeholders affected by a project.
Sustainability - It refers to the study and application of practices that
allow for projects and solutions to become self-sustaining or
sustainable in the long term.
Social Impact Assessment - It is the process of evaluating whether
projects or solutions achieved their intended purpose, outcomes and
impact.
