18. Mitochondria are the tiny rod shaped or a spherical organelles which are found in all the
cells. Mitochondria provide energy for all the activities of the cell. This energy is produced by

19. Renewable and non-renewable resources are energy sources that human society uses to
function on a daily basis. The difference between these two types of resources is that renewable
resources can naturally replenish themselves while non-renewable resources cannot. This means
that non-renewable resources are limited in supply and cannot be used sustainably. There are
four major types of non-renewable resources oil, natural gas, coal and nuclear energy. Oil,
natural gas and coal are collectively called fossil fuels. Fossil fuels were formed within the Earth
from dead plants and animals over millions of years hence the name fossil fuels. They are found
in underground layers of rock and sediment. pressure and heat work together to transform the
plant and animal remains into crude oil also called petroleum, coal and natural gas. Crude oil is a
liquid fuel that is used mostly to produce gasoline and diesel fuel for vehicles and for the
manufacturing of plastics. Natural gas is widely used for cooking and for heating homes. It
consists mostly of methane and is found near oil deposits below Earth’s surface. Coal is a solid
fuel that is used for heating homes and generating power plants.
(i) The type of energy which cannot be replenished
(a)Non-renewable energy
(b)Renewable energy
(c)Both a and b
(d)None of these
(ii) Fuel which is obtained from crude oil-
(a) Coal
(b) Natural gas
(c) Petrol

(iii)....... ……………is a solid fossil fuel
(a) Coal
(b) Petroleum
(c) Natural gas
(d)None of these

(iv) Name the main ingredient of natural gas .

(v) Write one use of coal.
20. Some metals are chemically very reactive Where as other metals are less reactive or
unreactive. On the basis of vigor of reactions of various metals with oxygen, water and acids as
well as the displacement reactions, the metals have been arranged in a group according to their
chemical reactivities. This arrangement of metals in a vertical column in the order of decreasing
reactivities is called the reactivity series of metals. In reactivity series the most reactive metal is
placed at the top whereas the least reactive metal is placed at the bottom. A more reactive metal
displaces a less reactive metal from its salt solution. A less reactive metal cannot displace a more
reactive metal from its salt solution. The reactivity series of some common metals is given below
Potassium
Sodium
Calcium
Magnesium
Aluminium
Zinc
Iron
Lead
Copper
Silver
Gold
