Hello grade 9 students its welding time . I am Teacher at the left side of the screen
teacher Daniel your teacher in TLE , join me here
in Digos eskwela. GFX: TEXT (middle )
Daniel Gomez
Today we will be learning how to : TLE Teacher
GFX: text at the middle
1. Perform tack welding 1 perform deposit straight beads

Teacher time:
(Motivation)
Before we proceed to our lesson, I will ask you GFX: picture joined
first a question:.

How do you joined the two object?

If you are saying that they have to be paste or put

something to be joined …then you’re correct.

Teacher time:

Teacher time: And this has something to do with Teacher at the left side of the screen
Our lesson for today which is about Perform tack GFX: text middle part of a screen
welding. GFX: full screen perform Tack welding
(Discussion)
Teacher time: Teacher at the center of the screen
This time , I want you to use your glue, scissor
and paper . . . and I want you to cut or make a
design and joined them together to make a
beautiful image. GFX : middle part of the screen

How is our activity is it difficult to perform? GFX: full screen

GFX: picture of tak welded plates

(Voice over)
In carrying out some welding operation, very
often the pieces have to be tack welded. Tack
welds are simply short sections of weld beads
measured ¼” to ½” long used to maintain the
proper root opening between the two sections of
metals being welded (These tack welds are
spaced along the seam and must be firmly fused
into the joints.)

Teacher time:
My dear students There are KINDS OF TACKING. GFX: Teacher at the left side of the screen
holding a base metal to be weld.

First , Permanent Tacking is a type of tack weld GFX:Text at the right side of the screen

Teachers time:

Ok my dear students let us have another activity, GFX: Teacher at right side of the screen
on how to prepare the base metal in tacking.

List down the 3 kinds of tacking a metal in 30

seconds.
GFX: timer 30 seconds
Times UP:
The answer are First ,the base metal must be clear

Well done, Congratulations. GFX: Person perform welding

GFX middle part

Teacher time:
Before we perform the tacking ,we must know GFX: person perform welding
the Five (5) Essential of welding. GFX: middle part

(VOICE OVER)
First, correct electrode to use, Electrodes for
shielded metal arc welding range in diameter
from 3/32 to 3/16 of an inch. You may also come
across some ¼ inch electrodes. GFX: person perform welding
GFX: Middle part
Second, is Current is measured in amperes, or
amps. Each type of electrode has recommended
amperage ranges for optimum performance.
Amperage ranges are usually specified in the
welding procedure or in the manufacturers’ data
sheets.
GFX: person perform welding
Third, is Arc length is the distance from the tip of GFX: middle part
the electrode core wire to the weld puddle. Arc
length can be deceiving, because the core wire is
recessed inside a cup that forms at the tip of the
electrode. You have to take this into
consideration when gauging arc length.
GFX: person perform welding
Fourth, Travel speed is the rate at which the GFX: Middle part
electrode moves along the work. The key to
correct travel speed is “reading” the weld puddle,
because the weld puddle is a liquid version of the
weld bead.

Fifth, In shielded metal arc welding, the work and

travel angles are used to control the shape of the
weld puddle and the amount of penetration. The
travel angle is the angle between the joint and
the electrode along the axis of the weld.

(Teacher time )
Are ready students? Watch and Learn
Now lets proceed to the procedure in performing GFX: Teacher at the center of the screen
tack welding.

But before we proceed we must know the

procedure in tacking.

(voice over)
GFX: person preparing tools and equipment’s
First we must prepare the tools, equipment and
materials needed.
GFX: person set-up welding machine
Second Set up the welding machine. Check the
electrical connections before switching on the
machine. Set current between 90-140 amperes.

Third . Wear protective clothing and equipment. GFX: Person wearing protective equipment

Fourth . Lay the base metal in a welding table

where you are comfortable as possible when GFX: person perform laying the base metal
welding commences.

Fifth, Tack weld the plates 10mm up to a. 15mm

from each end at the middle, b. without gap
between the plates.

Sixth, Start welding the side which is not

tacked with the electrode at an 70° travel
angle and 90° work angle.

Note: Maintain an arc length of 2mm to 3mm

Did you get it.my dear students

Seventh, Using the chipping hammer, chip GFX: person strike an arc using the two methods
off slag from the bead, and by using a steel the scratching and tapping methods
brush remove the remnants of the beads.
Note: Always wear a clear eye glasses when
chipping slags.
GFX: person perform welding
Eight ,Inspect the bead if there is a uniform
width.
Note: Use steel brush to remove remnants.

Nineth, Weld the opposite side following the GFX: person perform welding
same procedure

Tenth, Inspect the weld run. The weld should be

straight, of even thickness and width with fine
GFX: person perform welding
ripples. The thickness of the bead should be
about one and one-half of the electrode
diameter.
GFX: person perform welding
Very good ..You are able follow the procedure in
deposit straight beads .

GFX: person perform welding

Lets proceed students are you okay ,just relax.

Our next activity write down the procedure in

deposit straight beads method within 40 seconds
GFX: person perform welding
Timers start now..

Very Good…Congratulation Students.

GFX: timer 40 seconds

Teacher Time:

I hope you have learned a lot about what we

have discussed today.

Remember the procedure in deposit straight

beads.

(Voice over)
NOTE: When all other essentials are under
control, a change in the direction of travel
changes the heat input to the puddle. A drag
travel angle increases heat input because the arc
is pointing into the puddle. A push travel angle
reduces heat input because the arc is pointing
away from the puddle.

The work angle is pointing between the

electrode and the work surface along the work
plane, which runs perpendicular to the axis of
the weld. An incorrect work angle can cause you
to favor one side of the joint more than another.
The result is undercut and lack of fusion.

That is the end of our lesson for today I hope you

have learned about the procedure in deposit
straight beads

This is teacher Daniel.I hope you will always

tuning-in Digos Eskwela for our the next topic in
welding .
Good bye and more fun ….
