Mark: What do you think of this one?
Mia: I like it. But I’m not sure what it is.
Mark: I think that’s a castle on the left or another historical
building.
Mia: Oh yes, I see that too. And in the foreground, that
might be a man on a horse with a sword, or it could
be a flag. What do you think?
Mark: I think you’ve got a good imagination! It looks like an
avocado to me.
Mia: Don’t be silly … why would the artist paint an
avocado?
Mark: You never know. I think some artists just like to
laugh at us trying to guess what they’ve painted.

The Roman Forum, known as Forum Romanum in Latin,
was found at the centre of the ancient city of Rome and was
the location of important political and social activities. It is
believed that people first began meeting in the open-air
Forum in around 500 BC, at the beginning of the Roman
Republic. This area of low land between Palatine Hill and
Capitoline Hill was home to many of the ancient city’s most
impressive monuments. Today, the Roman Forum is one of
the most famous tourist sites in the world, attracting more
than 4.5 million people each year.
