DIGITAL SELF

The digital self is the persona you use when you're online. Digital self is like an RPG (role playing
games) where you get to create your avatar , express who you are, and what you want others
to perceive. Others have a single online self that is roughly the same as the one they occupy in
the "real world," while some people retain one or more online identities that are separate from
their "real world" selves. (ortillana)

CYBERSPACE

Refers to the virtual computer world. More specifically an electronic medium that is used to
facilitate online communication. (ortillana)

DIGITAL LITERACY

Means having the skills you need to live, learn, and work in a society where communication and
access to information.

ONLINE DISINHIBITION

Refers to lack of restraint one feels when communicating online. (ortillana)

2 CATEGORIES OF ONLINE DISINHIBITION (ortillana)

1. Benign Disinhibition- Is when an individual uses a persona online that seeks to express their
full potential.

2. Toxic Disinhition- Using a persona that engages in toxic behaviours or activities online.

5 WAYS OF HOW PEOPLE PRESENT THEMSELVES (pagaran)

1. Self-promotion- it is characterized by wanting to be perceived as amore smart and skilled


person than others.

2. Ingratiation- when individuals do actions to gain others attention to be liked by others.

3. Exemplification- a self-presentation strategy where individuals project themselves an image


of integrity or moral worthiness.

4. Intimidation- it is presenting oneself as scary or intimidating.

5. Supplication- an act of expressing oneself but only sharing misfortunes or life misery to
depict oneself as weak, needy or dependent on others.
IMPACT OF ONLINE INTERACTIONS ON THE SELF (retardo)

The development of the persons social aspects can be greatly influenced by technology due to

POSITIVE IMPACT

 Increased self esteem when receiving many likes and shares.


 Social media sites inform and empower individuals to change themselves and their

NEGATIVE IMPACT

 Low self esteem due to risk of being exposed to cyber bullying and cyber pornography.
 Extensiveness online engagement is correlated with personality and brain disorders.

Personal boundaries are the set of guidelines, rules or limits that a person to creates identify
reasonable, safe and permissible ways for people to behave towards them and how they
respond in case someone breaks these rules or overstep the limits. (no need to include in the

 Guard your passwords
 Be choosy about online friends
 Don’t be mean or embarrass other people online
 Limit what you share
 Remember that anything you put online is there forever, even you try to delete it.
