many tribes little clothing was worn. Body was seen as a canvas for decoration.

Beadwork and jewellery were also frequently used for beautification. Everything

that in their body has a significant meaning and it is deeply sacred including

scarification, body paint, body piercing , mud were other forms of body art

which has been held in high regard in African tribes.

people engage to it.

Assignment:

Reading Task: In preparation for Task 1 in Unit 2, read this article of Isagani Cruz about
the art installation of Mideo Cruz entitled, Poleteismo

o-art-not-art

As you read it, reflect on the following questions:

1. According to the article, what is the difference between art and Art?

 Based on my understanding after reading the article, that the uppercase A

suggests "important art", usually, I would think that "art" without modification

referred to painting or one of the arts. I think for us to understand, we just need

to know is that the person speaking in the article is referring to art that he or she

considers important, notable or significant. Therefore, what Mideo Cruz created

might count as "art," but it wouldn't count as important art, as "Art with a capital

A."

2. What is good art and bad art?

 I think good art is art that fulfils the artists’ goals and intentions and bad art is art

that does not. However, considering that not everyone agrees on what is “good”

and “bad” art. Each person on the planet has his or her own definition of “art.”

These two standards for judging art are probably at polar opposites of each

other, which means that the truth about what makes good or bad art lies

somewhere in between.
3. Think of an example of art and Art.

 Music. It’s really an art and Art. It lends itself easily to alliances with words, as in

song, and with physical movement, as in dance. It feels good how you can hear

and feel each individual’s emotions, expressions and creativity. Throughout

history, music has been an important adjunct to ritual and drama and has been

credited with the capacity to reflect and influence human emotion.
