1. Do you agree with this statement of Bulosan that he finds it a stupidity “when people spend so many years learning
how to read and write but never use that knowledge throughout their lives?” Why? Why not? (10 pts.)

I think the statement is true and finds it stupidity because the essence when it comes to time. Yes, reading
helps to expand the mind and give us more ideas. Reading has been proven to keep our minds young, healthy and
sharp, with studies showing that reading can even help prevent Alzheimer’s disease and writing is the primary basis
upon which history, communication, record keeping and art has begun. Spending many years on learning how to read
and write is such strong foundation to a person but when there is no application throughout their lives then definitely it is
just a waste of time instead of prioritizing other essential things. That’s why sometimes people tend to failed on the
track they have been through. I always believe that each one of us has its own skills and talent but when it is not truly
meant for us, never ever pursue because at the end we will regret and suffer.

2. Explain in not less than 50 words the quotation below. (25 pts.)

“The poor man does not write books; he is too busy looking for something to fill his stomach. And when he comes to it,
his mind is too weak, his recollection too short, his imagination too blurred, etc. Thus, the history is not yet written.” –
Carlos Bulosan

Life is a journey, isn’t it? You must travel your own journey at your own pace, do not rush the process or assume that
you accept someone else’s choices for your life. Some people leads to self-searching because of misunderstanding
destiny towards life satisfaction. Writing is not a form of his way to success but instead other essential things that would
fill the genuine meaning of life. Keeping yourself from things that would make you happy can make you out of your
comfort zone and confidence. People often say that this or that person has not yet found himself. But the self is not
something one finds; it is something one creates. Knowing yourself is the beginning of all wisdom. The more you know
who you are and what you want the less you let things upset you. Your history is not yet done, as long as you live look
for something that would satisfy your inner being.
