 Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav launched the 17th edition

of the biennial ‘India State of Forest Report (ISFR)’ 2021.
 केंद्रीय पयया वरण मंत्री भूपेंद्र ययदव ने द्विवयद्वषाक 'इं द्वियय स्टे ट ऑफ फॉरे स्ट ररपोटा (ISFR)'
2021 के 17वें संस्करण कय शु भयरं भ द्वकयय।
 ISFR is released by the Forest Survey of India (FSI) in every two years
since 1987 to assess the country’s forest resources.
 आईएसएफआर को भयरतीय वन सवेक्षण (एफएसआई) ियरय 1987 से हर दो सयल में दे श के
वन संसयधनों कय आकलन करने के द्वलए जयरी द्वकयय जयतय है ।

Key findings of the ISFR 2021

 India’s forest and tree cover rose by 2,261 square kilometers in ISFR 2021
as compared to the assessment of 2019.
 2019 के आकलन की तु लनय में ISFR 2021 में भयरत के वन और वृक्षों के आवरण में 2,261
वर्ा द्वकलोमीटर की वृद्धि हुई।
 This includes an increase of 1,540 square kilometres in forest cover and
721 sq km increase in tree cover.
 इसमें वन आच्छयदन में 1,540 वर्ा द्वकलोमीटर की वृद्धि और वृक्षों के आवरण में 721 वर्ा
द्वकलोमीटर की वृद्धि शयद्वमल है ।
 The forest and tree cover in India is now 8,09,537 sq kms.
  भयरत में वन और वृक्षों कय आवरण अब 8,09,537 वर्ा द्वकलोमीटर है ।
 Total forest cover is 7,13,789 sq kms, (21.71 percent of the geographical
area) and tree cover is 95,748 sq kms (2.91 percent of the geographical
area).
 कुल वनयवरण 7,13,789 वर्ा द्वकलोमीटर (भौर्ोद्वलक क्षेत्र कय 21.71 प्रद्वतशत) और वृक्ष

 The total forest and tree cover in the country is now spread across 80.9
million hectares, or 24.62% of the geographical area of the country.

24.62 प्रद्वतशत में फैलय हुआ है ।
 The total carbon stock in forest is estimated to be 7,204 million tonnes.
 वन में कुल कयबान स्टॉक 7,204 द्वमद्वलयन टन होने कय अनुमयन है ।
 This includes an increase of 79.4 million tonnes in the carbon stock of the
country in 2021 as compared to 2019.

2022, that captured certain interesting insights about global income & wealth
inequality.

Key Findings analysis on inequalities in India

 The report notes that the top 1 % of India’s population owns more than one-
fifth of the total national income in 2021.

Retail inflation rises to 5.59% in December 2021

पदसंबर 2021 में खुदरा मुद्रास्फीपत बढकर 5.59% हो र्ई
  Retail inflation in December 2021 rose to a six-month high of 5.59 per
cent from 4.91 per cent in November 2021.
 द्वदसंबर 2021 में खुदरय मुद्रयस्फीद्वत नवंबर 2021 में 4.91 प्रद्वतशत से बढ़कर छह महीने के
उच्च स्तर 5.59 प्रद्वतशत पर पहुं च र्ई।
 Retail Inflation is measured by the Consumer Price Index (CPI).
 खुदरय मुद्रयस्फीद्वत को उपभोिय मूल्य सूचकयं क (सीपीआई) ियरय मयपय जयतय है ।
 It is mainly due to a sharp rise in food prices.

What is the Consumer Price Index?

 It measures price changes from the perspective of a retail buyer. It is released

by the National Statistical Office (NSO).
 The CPI calculates the difference in the price of commodities and services
such as food, medical care, education, electronics etc, which Indian consumers
buy for use.
 The CPI has several sub-groups including food and beverages, fuel and light,
housing and clothing, bedding and footwear.
Four types of CPI are as follows
· CPI for Industrial Workers (IW).
· CPI for Agricultural Labourer (AL).
· CPI for Rural Labourer (RL).
· CPI (Rural/Urban/Combined)

 Of these, the first three are compiled by the Labour Bureau in the Ministry
of Labour and Employment. Fourth is compiled by the NSO in the Ministry of
Statistics and Programme Implementation.
 Base Year for CPI in general is 2012.
 However the base year for CPI for Industrial Worker (CPI-IW) is 2016.

WHO recommends two new drugs for COVID-19

WHO ने COVID-19 के पलए दो नई दवाओं की पसफाररश की

 The World Health Organisation has recommended the use of two new
drugs called interleukin-6 (IL-6) and baricitinib in combination with
corticosteroids to treat patients with severe or critical COVID-19
infection.
 द्ववश्व स्वयस्थ्य संर्ठन ने र्ंभीर यय र्ंभीर COVID-19 संक्रमण वयले रोद्वर्यों के इलयज के द्वलए
कॉद्वटाकोस्टे रॉइि् स के संयोजन में इं टरल्यूद्वकन -6 (IL-6) और बयररद्वसद्वटद्वनब नयमक दो नई
दवयओं के उपयोर् की द्वसफयररश की है ।
 As per the experts, when both the drugs are available, one should be chosen
on the basis of the cost availability and clinical experience.

ISRO successfully tests Cryogenic Engine for Gaganyaan Rocket

 Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has successfully conducted

the qualification test of Cryogenic Engine for Gaganyaan programme for
a duration of 720 seconds at ISRO Propulsion Complex (IPRC), Mahendragiri,
Tamil Nadu.
