LESSON 1 - ACTIVITY 1
Please refer to the quote below in answering the given questions:

“If I have seen further than others, it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.”
- Sir Isaac Newton

1. What do you think Newton has seen?

I think Newton had seen potential from different studies and researches that

are interesting and that he can work with during his times. The phrase “If I have

seen further than others...” means that he had seen something that is far more

defined and clearer than what most of the people knew. He acquired knowledge

from the books that he read and that is what he had seen.

2. Who do you think Newton refers to as giants?

I think Newton was referring to his ‘superiors’ or what we call OG (a slang

term for something that is authentic, original or old-school) because they were the

ones who started the theories and studies, it was originally from their own ideas

and concepts. The giants are those philosophers and other professionals in the past

who made all the books and studies that he had read. They are giants because they

hold great intelligence that helped in discovering theories and nature of things.
3. What do you think this quote tells you about Newton’s character?

I think that this quote wanted to tell me that Newton acquired his knowledge

from other people and that he studied a lot to be able to greatly contribute in those

researches. Aside from this, it also shows how deep his thinking was, especially

about his proposals and conceptions leading to advancements and further studies

significant until today’s and future’s generation.

Activity Task:
The following timeline summarizes the development of the periodic table. Using the
brief history of the periodic table as an example and applying what you have learned about
intellectual revolutions, select any topic (can be an object or theory) and present its historical
evolution to its present-day form. Identify the key persons who are instrumental in its
development and how each key person worked on the findings of his/her predecessors in the
field to further improve the work. Be creative in presenting your timeline and in presenting your
work.

The use of Bluetooth and wireless printer in the modern times are made easier and

accessible for many. This results from the evolution of the mediums used in presenting graphics,

images or texts, usually on paper using different colors of ink. It was also because of the

ongoing innovations made by different persons even from the Year ‘90s up to present.
Due to the advancements in technologies and discoveries of materials used in gadgets and

machines, printers are also impacted. For instance, the old way of manual printing in 1400s

wherein they hire a scribe in reproducing and illustrating an entire book or document by hand

and block printing which is a type of printing involved carving letters and images into the face of

a block of wood, covering it with ink, and pressing it onto a medium such as paper turns into an

automatic and advanced printer machine available in the market. These are commonly used by

computer shops or printing press who uses printer for service and making materials. In terms of

contribution, a lot of individuals take part in it. Chester Carlson, Gary Starkweather, Charles

Hull and Andrew Clams are the few main contributors or inventors of the printers in every year

it was produced.

It is relevant to know the history of things and who were behind its successful

developments. Printer for example is a great invention which are made through creative minds

and collaboration between giant companies particularly those whose expertise are in technology.

With the help of the present and future innovators, it is possible to discover greater

improvements which are significant and help life become easier and comfortable for humans.
