LABORATORY TESTS AND PROCEDURES

Blood tests- Blood tests are often done to check levels of potassium, sodium, creatinine, blood glucose,
and total cholesterol and triglycerides and others.
A urine test(urinalysis)- A urine sample can contain markers that could point to medical conditions
that can cause high blood pressure.
Electrocardiogram(ECG or EKG)- This painless noninvasive test records the electrical signals in the
heart. This test can help determine whether a heart problem might be causing secondary hypertension.

Clarity/turbidity – Clear or cloudy
pH – 4.5-8
Specific gravity – 1.005-1.025
Ketones – None
Nitrites – Negative
Leukocyte esterase – Negative
Bilirubin – Negative
WBCs - ≤2-5 WBCs/hpf
Crystals – Occasionally
Bacteria – None
Yeast – None
Blood - ≤3 RBCs
Protein - ≤150 mg/d
RBCs - ≤2 RBCs/hpf
