CHANGING A HOSPITAL GOWN FOR A PATIENT WITH AN INTRAVENOUS

FLUID DEFINITION:
Hospital gowns worn by patients are designed so that hospital staff can easily access the part of the
patient’s body to be treated. The hospital gown is made of fabric that can withstand repeated laundering,
usually cotton and is fastened at the back with twill tape ties.

PURPOSE:
To maintain cleanliness and the feeling of freshness for the patients.

EQUIPMENT:
Clean gown, clean gloves, alcohol/soap and water, watch with second hand, blanket/top sheet.

CONSIDERATIONS BEFORE, DURING and AFTER THE PROCEDURE:


Gather all the necessary equipment, do hand washing, identify the patient and explain the procedure,
provide privacy and always check the IV fluid.

Document the flow and rate of the infusion and the procedures done.
