II. INTRODUCTORY CONCEPT

To improve your language ability, you must learn to comprehend what you’ve
heard. As such, you can construct meaning and make sense of the words you have
heard. When you get to understand the spoken language, it is easier for you to improve
the other skills and for you to build confidence in communicating using the target
language. Other than being the primary form of communication, listening opens the
opportunity to understand the elegance of a language which is not obviously present in
grammar or reading.
In order to succeed in the era of globalization, learners need to critically evaluate
and synthesize volumes of information, respond with creativity and innovation, and
solve problems collaboratively and independently. Hence, added to the challenge of the

21st century learners are how you can fully understand and grasp the information and
knowledge at hand to effectively apply and utilize them in real-life experiences.

Vocabulary List

Listening- is receiving language through the ears which involves identifying

the sounds of speech and processing them into words and sentences.
Listening Strategies- are techniques or activities that contribute directly to
the comprehension and recall of listening input, and on how the listener
processes inputs.
Gist- is the main idea of a text or the essence of the entire passage
