Political Caricatures of
the Post Edsa
Presidents
By Roy D. Perfuma
SPRINGBOARD: THINK, TALK, AND TELL

1. WHAT IS A CARICATURE?
2. How does political caricature differ from
social commentary?
3. HOW AND WHY DID THIS ARTFORM
BECOME AN EFFECTIVE TOOL IN
EXPRESSING IDEAS AND OPINIONS?
Rodrigo Duterte
and His War on
Drugs
Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte is
using extrajudicial killings in his war on
drugs. He's allowing the police to kill
people who are only suspected of crimes
without giving them a chance to defend
themselves in a court of law.
Maria Ressa and
Philippines
Journalism
The recent arrest of journalist Maria
Ressa is the latest in Philippines
President Rodrigo Duterte's attacks on
his country's journalists.
Rodrigo Duterte
and the Road to
Authoritarianism
A cartoon on Rodrigo Duterte's road to
authoritarianism in the Philippines.
President
Duterte's Rape
Jokes
Feminists in the Philippines have
criticized President Rodrigo Duterte's
penchant for using rape jokes. Duterte's
comments empowers men to sexually
harass women in a macho culture that
already has problems with sexism.
Against
Extrajudicial
Killings
A small, but growing group of people,
including leftists, students, human rights
groups and the Catholic Church, are
speaking out against Philippine
President Rodrigo Duterte's extrajudicial
killings.
Peace and War in
the Philippines
New President Rodrigo Duterte is a very
contradictory figure. The Good Duterte is
aggressively pursuing peace talks in
Oslo with communist leaders to end a
long running insurgency. The Bad
Duterte is encouraging the police and
citizens to kill people who are suspected
of crimes. This means that many people
are getting killed without being given a
chance to defend themselves in a court
of law.
