NSIREWA
Nsirewa represents unity, togetherness and harmony. This 6
storey urban housing is located adjacent to East King's
House Road and Loshusan. It is intended to aid in the
initiative of transforming Barbican into a sustainable urban
setting. It aims to maximize human connections and
ultimately create a sense of community and unity with the
use of communal spaces as well as green spaces. All
thoughts, all people, all cultures, intimately touching and
intertwining, forming living connections.

SITE LOCATION
Site 2 is located in Barbican, St Andrew,
Jamaica, adjacent to East King's House
Road and Loshusan.
SITE ANALYSIS
Based on the analysis done, decisions
were made to align the building towards
the western edge of the site, away from
the noise on East King's House Road,
caused by the heavy traffic congestion
on a daily basis. The orientation of the
building capitalizes on views, into the
site and outward to the mountains and
harbour and also the forces affecting the
site, compelling forces from the
proposed square and community center.

SITE PLANNING
A hard edge was implemented along the
eastern edge of the site to prioritize
security and privacy as it was noted that
this edge was previously used as an
informal path for pedestrians. Security
was also considered based on the
proposed lay-by which would attract
heavy pedestrian traffic.
Vegetation was arranged in such a way
to allow privacy for the ground floor
apartments towards the west.
