A particle moves along the x-axis with an initial velocity vx = 50 m/sec at the origin when
t = 0. For the first 4 seconds it has no acceleration, and thereafter it is acted on by a
retarding force which gives it a constant acceleration a x= 10 ft/sec2. Calculate the
velocity and the x-coordinate of the particle for the conditions of t = 8 sec and t = 12 sec
and find the maximum positive x-coordinate reached by the particle. (ref. Meriam J.L.,
and Kraige L.G., Engineering Mechanics Dynamics, 7th edition, 2012)

2. The position coordinate of a particle which is confined to move along a straight line is
given by s =2t3 - 24t + 6, where s is measured in meters from a convenient origin and t is
in seconds. Determine (a) the time required for the particle to reach a velocity of 72 m/s
from its initial condition at t  0, (b) the acceleration of the particle when v = 30 m/s, and
(c) the net displacement of the particle during the interval from t =1 s to t =4 s.(ref.

3. At the instant depicted, assume that the particle P, which moves on a curved path, is
80m from the pole O and has the velocity v and acceleration a as indicated. Determine
the instantaneous values ofr˙ , Ɵ̇ , r̈ , Ɵ̈ , the n- and t- components of acceleration, and the
radius of curvature . (ref. Meriam J.L., and Kraig L.G., Engineering Mechanics Dynamics,
7th edition, 2012)
4. A train enters a curved horizontal section of track at a speed of 100 km/h and slows
down with constant deceleration to 50 km/h in 12 seconds. An accelerometer mounted
inside the train records a horizontal acceleration of 2 m/s2 when the train is 6 seconds
into the curve. Calculate the radius of curvature of the track for this instant. (Ref
Meriam & Kraige, DYNAMICS 7th ed.)

5. A projectile is ejected into an experimental fluid at time t = 0. The initial speed is v 0 and
the angle to the horizontal is θ. The drag on the projectile results in an acceleration term
aD = -kv where k is a constant and v is the velocity of the projectile. Determine the x- and
y-components of both the velocity and displacement as functions of time. What is the
terminal velocity? Include the effects of gravitational acceleration. .(ref. Meriam J.L., and
Kraige L.G., Engineering Mechanics Dynamics, 7th edition, 2012)

6. A man pulls himself up the 15° incline by the method shown. If the combined mass of
the man and cart is 100 kg, determine the acceleration of the cart if the man exerts a
pull of 250 N on the rope. Neglect all friction and the mass of the rope, pulleys and
wheels. .(ref. Meriam J.L., and Kraige L.G., Engineering Mechanics Dynamics, 7th edition,
2012)
7. Find the mobility of the following mechanism.  (ref Uicker J.J., Pennock G.R., and Shigley
