General Instructions:
1. The question paper consists of 14 questions divided into three sections A, B, C.
2. All questions are compulsory.
3. Section A comprises of 6 questions of 2 marks each. Internal choice has been provided in two questions.
4. Section B comprises of 4 questions of 3 marks each. Internal choice has been provided in one question.
5. Section C comprises of 4 questions of 4 marks each. An internal choice has been provided in one
question. It contains two case study based questions.

SECTION A

1. Find two numbers whose sum is 27 and product is 182.

OR
2
Find the roots of x −3 x – 10=0 by factorization.
2. Two cubes each of volume 64 cm3 are joined end to end. Find the surface area of the resulting cuboid.

3. Construct the cumulative frequency distribution of the following distribution:

Class 12.5-17.5 17.5-22.5 22.5-27.5 27.5-32.5 32.5-37.5

Frequency 2 22 19 14 13

4. Which term of the AP: 3, 8, 13, 18 ... is 78?

5. The median and mode of a distribution are 21.2 and 21.4 respectively, find its mean.
6. A tangent PQ at a point P of a circle of radius 5 cm meets a line through the centre O at a point Q so that
OQ = 12 cm. Find the length PQ.
OR
Two concentric circles are of radii 5 cm and 3 cm. Find the length of the chord of the larger circle which
touches the smaller circle.

SECTION B

7. Find the 31st term of an AP whose 11th term is 38 and 16th term is 73.

8. From a point on the ground, the angles of elevation of the bottom and the top of a transmission tower fixed
at the top of a 20 m high building are 45° and 60° respectively. Find the height of the tower.
OR
A girl who is 1.2 m tall, spots a balloon moving with the wind in a horizontal line at a height of 88.2 m from
the ground. The angle of elevation of the balloon from the eye of the girl at any instant is 60°. After
sometime, the angle of elevation reduces to 30°. Find the distance travelled by the balloon during the
interval.
9. Two tangents TP and TQ are drawn from an external point T with centre O as shown in figure. If they are
inclined to each other at an angle of 1000, then what is the value of ∠POQ?

10. An express train takes 1 hour less than a passenger train to travel 132 km between Mysore and Bangalore
(without taking into consideration the time they stop at intermediate stations). If, the average speed of the
express train is 11 km/h more than that of the passenger train, find the average speed of two trains.

SECTION C

11. Construct a tangent to a circle of radius 4 cm from a point on the concentric circle of radius 6 cm and
measure its length. Also verify the measurement by actual calculation.
OR
Draw a circle of radius 4 cm from a point P, 7 cm from the centre of the circle, draw a pair of tangents to the
circle measure the length of each tangent segment.
12. Find the mean, mode and median for the following data:

Case Study 1
A group of students of class X visited India Gate on an education trip. The teacher and students had interest
in history as well. The teacher narrated that India Gate, official name Delhi Memorial, originally called All-
India War Memorial, monumental sandstone arch in New Delhi, dedicated to the troops of British India who
died in wars fought between 1914 and 1919. The teacher also said that India Gate, which is located at the
eastern end of the Rajpath (formerly called the Kingsway), is about 138 feet (42 metres) in height.
a) What is the angle of elevation if they are standing at a distance of 42m away from the monument?
b) If the altitude of the Sun is at 60o, then find the height of the vertical tower that will cast a shadow of
length 20 m.
14. Case Study 2
Adventure camps are the perfect place for the children to practice decision making for themselves without
parents and teachers guiding their every move. Some students of a school reached for adventure at
Sakleshpur. At the camp, the waiters served some students with a welcome drink in a cylindrical glass and
some students in a hemispherical cup whose dimensions are shown below. After that they went for a jungle
trek. The jungle trek was enjoyable but tiring. As dusk fell, it was time to take shelter. Each group of four
students was given a canvas of area 551 m2. Each group had to make a conical tent to accommodate all the
four students. Assuming that all the stitching and wasting incurred while cutting, would amount to 1 m 2, the
students put the tents. The radius of the tent is 7m.
a) Find the volume of cylindrical cup.
b) Which container had more juice and by how much?
