General Instructions:
1. The question paper consists of 14 questions divided into three sections A, B, C.
2. All questions are compulsory.
3. Section A comprises of 6 questions of 2 marks each. Internal choice has been provided in two questions.
4. Section B comprises of 4 questions of 3 marks each. Internal choice has been provided in one question.
5. Section C comprises of 4 questions of 4 marks each. An internal choice has been provided in one
question. It contains two case study based questions.

SECTION A

1. Determine the nature of the roots of 2(a 2+ b2) x 2+ 2(a+b) x+ 1=0.

OR
2
Find the roots of x −3 x – 10=0 by factorization.
2. The diameter of a solid hemispherical toy is 7 cm. Find its curved surface area and total surface area.

3. Find the value of α, if the mode of the following data is 20: 15, 20, 25,18,13,15, 25,15,18,17, 20, 25, 20, α,
18.
4. Find the sum of first 100 even natural numbers which are divisible by 5.
5. Find the mean of the following frequency distribution:
Class 1-3 3-5 5-7 7-9
Frequency 9 22 27 18
6. A tangent PQ at a point P of a circle of radius 5 cm meets a line through the centre O at a point Q so that
OQ = 12 cm. Find the length PQ.
OR
In the adjoining figure, if AD, AE and BC are tangents to the circle at D, E and F respectively, then prove
that 2AD= AB + BC + CA.

SECTION B

7. Find the sum of all multiples of 7 lying between 500 and 900.
8. The angle of elevation of the top Q of a vertical tower PQ from a point X on the ground is 60°. At a point Y,
40 m vertically above X, the angle of elevation is 45°, find the height of the tower PQ and the distance XQ.
OR
A girl who is 1.2 m tall, spots a balloon moving with the wind in a horizontal line at a height of 88.2 m from
the ground. The angle of elevation of the balloon from the eye of the girl at any instant is 60°. After
sometime, the angle of elevation reduces to 30°. Find the distance travelled by the balloon during the
interval.
9. Two tangents TP and TQ are drawn from an external point T with centre O as shown in figure. If they are
inclined to each other at an angle of 1000, then what is the value of ∠POQ?

10. If 2 is a root of the quadratic equation 3 x 2+ px−8=0 and the quadratic equation 4 x2 −2 px +k =0 has equal
roots, find the value of k.
SECTION C

11. Draw two concentric circles of radii 2 cm and 5 cm. Take a point P on the outer circle and construct a pair
of tangents PA and PB to the smaller circle. Measure PA.
OR
Draw a circle of radius 4 cm from a point P, 7 cm from the centre of the circle, draw a pair of tangents to the
circle measure the length of each tangent segment.
12. Find the mean, mode and median for the following data:

Case Study 1
Akshat is a class 10 student. He went to his grandparent's home in a village. His grandfather took him to the
bank of a nearby river. Akshat was very happy to see the pollution-free village environment. He was
standing on the bank of the river observed that the angle of elevation of the top of a tree standing on the
opposite bank was 60o. When he moved 30 metres away from the bank, he found the angle of elevation to be
30o.
a) Find the height of the tree.
b) Find the width of the river. [Take √ 3= 1.732]
14. Case Study 2
A wooden article was made by scooping out a hemisphere from each end of a solid cylinder, as shown in the
figure.

If the height of the cylinder is 12 cm and its base is of radius 4.2 cm,
a) Find the total surface area of the article.
b) Also, find the volume of the wood left in the article.
