Assignment #4:

Being awakened by the reality of poverty here in the Philippines, wherein people eat literally
from garbage bags filled with bacteria. How can social awareness and cultural relativism co-exit
so we can prevent cultural bias and make a better world.

The poverty in the Philippines up today is really alarming. Just like what I saw on the
video, eating food from the garbage is what a lot Filipino doing just to survive hunger. I can say
that those leftover food is what I am not going to eat even if starving for days or weeks. I can
survive with water but not those food that is full of bacteria. But I am not judging them, those
leftover food is what keeping them alive and survive the day. I am aware that these people has
nothing, there is no opportunity to leave that lifestyle if they don’t have money to strive.
We tend to say in that situation “kadiri” or “mamatay na ko di ako kakain nyan”, but some
people volunteer or from the government, help these people because they understand them.
We didn’t judge them, we are just not in their situation so the good things at least we do is not
judging them and instead help and give them what they really need, small things or big things,
that we Filipinos that can eat three times a day can help these Filipinos that are starving and
has nothing. They are just like us normal people, trying to survive the day and not to starve,
their doings is not bad but it is the least that they can do not to starve to death.
