Course Title Therapeutic Modalities
Course Description The course covers therapeutic modalities in general, developmental aspects of therapeutic modalities in the world wide
setting, historical highlights in the Philippines, underlying therapeutic community principles (vision, mission, beliefs,
written and unwritten philosophy, essential elements and behavior shaping tools), salient features of ladderized community
program, treatment models/categories, cardinal rules, treatment and punishment, government programs for the welfare of
the victims, different therapeutic treatment models of correction and rehabilitation of penitent offenders and victim’s
reparation and emotional recovery programs.
Course Credits Three (3) units
Contact Hours 54 hours
Prerequisite Institutional Correction and Non-Institutional Correction

GOALS OF THE COLLEGE OF BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN CRIMINOLOGY


1. Encourage research and inquiry on the nature, causes, treatment or punishment of criminal behavior and how
criminal justice agencies function and respond to crime, criminals and victims;
2. Prepare the students for careers in crime prevention, law enforcement, scientific crime detection, correctional
administration, public safety and allied fields; and
3. Foster the values of leadership, integrity, accountability and responsibility while serving their fellowmen, community
and country.

OBJECTIVES OF THE BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN CRIMINOLOGY:


1. Produce graduates with sufficient technical knowledge and proficiency to his major fields in Criminalistics, Law
Enforcement Administration, Correction and Rehabilitation and Criminal Justice System;
2. Develop a high degree of leaders who possess dignity and honor to lead and extend services to his fellowmen,
community and country;
3. Develop and generate responsive researches along the fields of Public Ethics and Community Relations,
Criminalistics, Criminal Jurisprudence and Procedures, Defensive Tactics and Enforcement Administration; and
4. Generate adequate resources to augment necessary needs and development of the program.

Learning Outcomes At the end of the semester, the students should be able to:
1. Understand the general concept of therapeutic community modality.
2. Learn how the therapeutic community modality was developed in the worldwide setting.
3. Discover the history of therapeutic community in the Philippines.
4. Acknowledge the underlying therapeutic community principle.
5. Recognize the different essential elements of therapeutic community.
6. Attribute the cardinal rules in therapeutic community.
7. Identify the different treatment models of therapeutic community.
8. Familiarize with the different developmental phases programs of therapeutic community modalities.
9. Incorporate the concepts of victims’ welfare.
10. Imply competence and extensive comprehension in correctional therapeutic modalities promoting public safety and
criminal justice.
11. Ensure offender’s welfare and development through therapeutic modalities for their reintegration to the community.
12. Associate with the different therapeutic modalities effectively and independently to all types of person deprived of
liberty.
13. Take part in lifelong learning and devising therapeutic modalities for all types of person deprived of liberty.
14. Apply professional, social, and ethical standards in the practice of correcting criminals.

Classroom Policies 1. Prayer. Each class begins with a prayer.
2. Greetings. Students greet the teacher “Good morning sir/ma’am” before the beginning of the class
3. Attendance. Students can be excused only for valid reasons
4. Identification Card. Student identification card must always be worn by all students.
5. Promptness. Students are expected to come to class on time, more than 15 minutes is considered absence.
6. Participation. Students should participate actively during discussion and activities.
7. Intellectual integrity. Cheating should not be tolerated. Honesty is the best policy.
8. Use of Cellular Phones. All cellular phones are put in silent mode inside the classroom. Texting and answering calls

are to be done at designated areas in the campus.


9. Energy Conservation. Turn-off the lights, unplug electric fans and air condition after every class when not in use.
10. Submission of Requirements. Class requirements are to be submitted on time.
11. Courtesy. Respect for others is practiced at all times and in all places.
