Assignment #1

1.  Explain how you can apply your knowledge in chemistry in your day-to-day
activities.

In everyday life chemistry can be applied to a wide variety of situations. For

example, in the field of science, chemistry is used in the production of many products
for everyday use and for our food supply. Another example would be in fashion, with so
many chemical reactions being used in the production of new materials for clothing and
accessories. Students learn this material as part of their chemistry studies and will find
that applying it to these everyday activities can give them an appreciation for the many
ways that science is integrated into our world every day.

2.Do you think chemistry is useful to the program you are enrolled  in? Discuss

Criminology is the study of the nature, causes and control of criminal behavior.
To study criminology, you need to know the underlying basic knowledge of chemistry.
Criminologists use chemistry in their research to study evidence found at crime scenes,
forensics and cause of crimes and also behind them. Chemistry is a very important field.
In criminology, chemistry provides a wide spectrum of information that can help in
solving crimes and also helps detect other crimes. Some examples are the hair samples
and fingerprints that help greatly in identifying criminals, even if they have changed their
appearance after an incident. This method is more effective than facial recognition,
because it does not depend on a personal knowledge of the suspect’s appearance just
on a sample taken from him.
