Tourism on Guam

The tourism industry has played a significant role in the economic development and

growth of Guam, particularly in the transformation of the village of Tumon into a major tourist

destination. The tourism boom has had a positive impact on Guam's economy and society,

providing employment opportunities and contributing to the modernization of the island. We

chose this topic because Tourism is vastly part of our daily lives. Especially after COVID-19 hit,

it affected the tourism industry heavily. It relates to the annual theme because Tourism was a

frontier we had to cross, it is Guam’s first time switching to a brand-new economy. Guam then

also began to rely on people outside the island to foster its economy.

Tourism on Guam is one of the biggest revenue earners for the island. Without tourism,

Guam’s economy would be very different to what it is today. It was not very difficult to find

information about Guam’s tourism because of the Guam’s Visitors Bureau. Basic information

was found on their websites, but to get into real detail, we looked into Guam’s previous economy

reports. We take the percentages of how much tourism brings into Guam throughout the years to

see the real changes.

Our group decided to go with the website aspect because this topic is very data heavy.

Tourism also deals with the use of the internet and research because tourists do need to look for
the best places to stay and what to do. Creating a website helps us tie in all of the information

easily and efficiently.

Furthermore, we tried our absolute best to grab and gather all the information about

tourism’s impact on the economy of Guam. We started searching the internet for relevant

information. Through our research, we were able to gather an understanding of the changes and

developments that tourism provided to our economy.
