CONCLUSION

The research paper is dedicated to the reproduction semiotic terminology in

the article “ A guess of the riddle” by Charles Pierce. The aim of the research is to
define and analyse semiotic and philosophical concept : Firstness, Secondeness and
Thirdness in the translation. The theoretical insight allows to expand our
knowledge of the notion of the metalanguage in modern linguistics as well as in
Translation Studies, their linguistic and stylistic features.
In this course paper we defined that terminological studies in Ukraine is far
from established. We have only several terminological dictionaries, books,
encyclopedias. The important step to unconditional success in development of
Ukrainian terminology is balancing of theoretical and practical approaches of
Ukrainian terminology.
In this research paper philosophical terms is analyzed from the point of view
of semiotic and characterized as sign system. Charles Pierce classified
metaphysical categories - Firstness, Secondeness and Thirdness . In translation it is
difficult to render this philosophical terms. Charles Pierce define sign as anything
which is so determined by something else, it is something positive in the sense that
its prominent characteristics are those of presentness and immediacy.
Having analyzed the corpus of the research paper we can make such
conclusions:
- Theoretical aspects of rendering scholarly terminology in Ukrainian language
should further researched, because it play an important role in translation semiotic
and philosophical texts.
- In the process of translation the translator have many difficulties and they should
make the target text appropriate for the target audience. Despite the fact that
translation scholars and theorists propose extensive strategies to address translation
problems, it is not always possible to find the appropriate translation.
- The article “A guess of the riddle” by Charles Pierce was included in the book
which was not published. He explained his metaphysical categories- firstness,
secondness, and thirdness - by showing how they might explain the basic principles
of logic, psychology, physiology, biology, physics, sociology, and theology.
Charles Pierce consider this article as “one of the births of time”.
- In the process of translation I used a lot of philosophical, semiotic, terminological
dictionaries and encyclopedias. Compere with Ukrainian equivalent and find
appropriate translation.
The final conclusion, which can be made, this article which was researched
is philosophical, that complicates translation process. There are a lot of
philosophical terminology, which have not been translated before. So, semiotic and
scholarly terminology should be further researched, because it is quite important in
developing Ukrainian terminology.
