Ped 3b Activity

Concrete
The goal of a scientific lecture on plant connections and how plants develop is to
familiarize students with what causes plants to grow, so they are expected to grow their own
plant by the end of the semester in a class that focuses solely on plant science. The teacher first
goes through the fundamentals of what causes plants to grow with the class. The teacher will
explain the procedure and crucial components of plant growth using both verbal and non-visual
symbols. Next, the teacher will show some photographs, audios, and videos so that students will
have an idea about how plants provide us with oxygen, associating plant needs with plant
growth, describe the importance of nutrients to plants, etc. The teacher will also be doing an
exhibit displaying different posters or art gallery about the movement of water in the hydrologic
cycle, photosynthesis, identify ways plants adapt to their environment and Identify types of plant
habitats and other resources available that the students can read and see by their own. this will
contribute towards creating awareness about science as well as creating enthusiasm in students.
For a more immersive experience, the students will have a field trip to an Eco Park or a place
filled with plants and different natural habitats. This way, they can observe how plants grow and
how an environment can affect the growth of a plant. After the study trip, the teacher will then
focus on helping the students formulate their own production of the plant, specifically the mung
bean or munggo, by demonstrating them using starting seeds in cotton balls. The teacher will
demonstrate step-by-step instructions on how to grow seeds in cotton balls by preparing the
cotton balls, water the seeds in a container from the top of the wet cotton balls as this allows the
students to see the portion of the bean plant that is normally covered by soil and they can watch
the roots grow and dig into the cotton balls. This is a great way to demonstrate the life cycle of a
plant and the teacher will also let them see the result of the sprouted beans so that they can
compare and contrast the plant. The next activity will be dramatized experience, where the
teacher will let the students act out on how/where to use and plant the seeds properly. To have a
contrived experience, the students will be given an opportunity to Investigate how the structure
and shape of a plant affects photosynthesis by giving them plant models that demonstrates the
difference and let them Inspect an artificial habitat (vegetable garden, lawn, hedgerow) and let
them have a try on simulation games about growing a plant. As an assessment of the lesson, the
teacher will conduct a project and practicum where the students are required to plant a seed using
the cotton method making sure they have applied the lessons they gained by explaining the
process and let them transfer it a week after in a real pot so they can observe it and pass it with a
reflection and the teacher will judge each student’s work depending on the application of the
lesson. This activity will help learners in improving their knowledge about plants and give them
different perspectives on how plant matters in our lives and how it affects us and they will start
to care about the earth.
