I. Introduction

Our era has been called the Age of Information because there are so many
different sources of information – from traditional print sources, like books and
magazines, to multimedia sources, including film and video, CD-ROMs, and the
Internet.

Media is one of the most commonly used way of getting and spreading
information nowadays. People in their household do have electronic gadgets and
resources that help them access the information they need in less time and most of
the time hassle free.

Most commonly, broadcasting media are helpful to people nowadays and

make our lives easier and better. The information being disseminated online could
also be harmful sometimes that is why we need to be very vigilant and observant in
the best ways we can to avoid scattering fake news or wrong information.

This report deals the concept of broadcasting media, specially the broadcasting
materials. The report has been so designed as to give definitions in broader terms,
how the broadcasting materials can be used in presenting authentic learning and its
effectiveness on student’s learning.

1.1. Context and Background

The continuing quest for updated information and knowledge is now ably
assisted by state-of-the-art information and communication technologies ushered
by emerging trend toward modernization. Technology-aided strategies are aimed
at providing valuable experiences through instructional devices that can be
viewed and heard. Updated information such as recent discoveries and
inventions, improved procedures in doing things and better products are
communicated and learned through pictures, films, tapes, and television. Oral
communication lessons could be presented through broadcasts and instructional
tapes. Television episodes serialized concepts in Science, English, and Math.

Broadcasting is an excellent way of getting information in a consistent form

to a large number of people. Interactive communication works well when all
members of a group have something equal to contribute to the process of
knowledge development and dissemination. In the most common form,
broadcasting may be described as the systematic way of spreading
entertainment, information, educational knowledge, and other features for
simultaneous reception by a scattered audience with appropriate receiving
apparatus.

There is a variety of definitions of broadcast and broadcasting materials.

Authors have presented definitions in their own contexts. One broader definition
of broadcast and broadcasting materials maybe as under :
Broadcast is the distribution of audio or video content to a dispersed
audience via any electronic mass communications medium, but typically one
using the electromagnetic spectrum (radio waves), in a one-to-many model.
Broadcast materials are resources transmitted to public through radio and
televesion. Public service announcements, daily news, weather, forecasts,
interviews, documents, comedies,movies,sports and advertisement/commercials
are typical examples of broadcast materials.

I.2. Purpose

Speaking, listening, viewing, and representing are the building blocks of

communication and of one’s view of the world. They are all unique forms of
communication used for conveying and receiving information.

Some kinds of information are most effectively presented with sounds and
visuals. Visual representation is an important and effective way to communicate.
In school, good speaking and critical listening skills are essential for success.
Learning how to become a critical listener will enable you to understand and
evaluate the most important points in a speaker’s message. Listening critically
involves evaluating and making judgments about what you hear. One reason to
become a better listener is to acquire new ideas and information on which to build
your knowledge.

Lessons presented through educational channels on television could reach

farthest and fastest than any other traditional methodologies. Photographs of
real places, events and materials projected on screen help immensely in studying
life-like happenings. Models and scaled structures in motion easily catch
attention and curiosity, hence focused observation is assured. Updated
knowledge, news, and current national and local practices and activities are
helpful inputs into the day’s lessons. Interest-generating and funfilled, every
lesson taught in this manner cannot fail in pursuin its objectives. The love and
eagerness for new information and innovative procedures practices more than
compensate for the investment in these technologies

II. Body

In the past two or three years, broadcasting was such a big help in spreading
helpful information and to reaching people in the time of pandemic. With the
advancement of broadcast, educators now have new ways to communicate with their
students. It enables students to listen and view helpful information and meet other
people using mobile computers, and radio. These are a few examples that makes
studying easier. With the help of the newest and latest technology, people can
access the information they need. To mention a few - such as computer, laptop,
smart phones – are very helpful to people of all ages.

On the other hand, broadcast media could also be associated with the
broadcasting materials being commonly used in our time.

Therefore, what is Broadcast Media? Broadcast materials as described is a

traditional form of media that include television and radio. It involves electronically
and simultaneously sent information using signals, audio or video content to a vast
or large group of recipients using television, radio.

Broadcast materials provides valuable information – to name a few are

speeches, documentaries, interviews, advertisements, daily news, world market and
much more. The latest and up-to-date information can be gathered here too.

Television and Radio are the top most commonly used broadcast material
when it comes to involving technology. These can be easily accessed in our
households nowadays. People from the old ages back when the television was
invented, begun to have access to news at the comfort of their home during those
time back in the late 1920s. As to the radio, it was invented the year 1895.
Radio provides real-time information and can provide the most recent updates
to listeners. It has the ability to reach across borders and can become a valuable
source of information where reliable news is available.

Television on the other hand, uses a form of mass media that works well to
generate awareness, attract attention and has an ability to appeal to emotion. A
television broadcast can be obtained free, over the air using an antenna.
Educational television programs are scheduled and are available for use in school
within the area. Lessons in Social Science, Science or Mathematics are shown
regularly in public television broadcasts. Our Knowledge Channel broadcasts hourly
lesson about our country’s history which can be used for viewing during the day in
their classrooms.

Indeed that technology has evolved so much and it has a great impact to what
we are accessing and is using nowadays. Thanks to our great inventors and
innovators that they exerted much of their time and knowledge to these great
innovations and technology.

III. Conclusion

Broadcast Material never fail to arouse the students’ curiosity and sustain
their interests especially when a new topic is being introduced. They serve as stimuli
which can cause positive interaction.

a) It gives more reliable and more precise information compared to the usual
way of spreading news in the olden days such as hearsays and word of
mouth.

b) Documentaries and cultural programs are best viewed on regular

television programs. They are guaranteed to be accurate and current.

c) Television broadcasts, like films, never fail to catch the curiosity and
interests of the students

d) The media itself can serve as the “take-off” point for the planned learning
activities. Examples: videotapes and films of famous plays in literature,
recordings of folk songs or filmed dance festivals could be the center of
the discussion.

To be an informed consumer of information, it is important that you learn to

critically evaluate what you see and hear in media. Much of the information you
receive comes to you from visual media, particularly television. The quality and
relevance of this information depends on the type of program beign viewed. Be
aware of the purpose and limitations of the program you are watching. Find out who
wrote or sponsored the program. Separate facts (proven statements) from opinions
(beliefs). Use resources to check questionable information. Watch for bias-
presenting a subject from one point of view. Note the kinds of images shown and
their emotional impact and view the complete program before reaching your own
conclusions about issues, people, and information.
