Eating a variety of foods keeps our meals

interesting and colorful. It's also the key to a
healthy and balanced diet because each food
has a unique mix of nutrients both of what we
called the macronutrients (carbohydrate, protein,
and fats) and micronutrients (vitamins and
minerals).

It's also important to remember that fat is necessary
part of our diet, and what matters most is the type of fat
we eat. We should regularly choose foods with healthy
unsaturated fats (such as fish, nuts, seeds, and healthy
oils from plants), limit foods in high in saturated fat
(especially red meat), and avoid unhealthy trans fats
(from partially hydrogenated oils):

WEARING CLEAN CLOTHES and SHOES

Unclean clothes are one of the reasons for body odour.

Moreover, it can be the reason for skin infection.
Furthermore, dirty clothes can create a bad impression of a
person to others. Therefore, give your kids lessons on how to
wear clean clothes every day. Teach them the importance of
wearing tidy and clean clothes. Also, you may instruct them
on how to wash clothes properly.
Additionally, if your kids love wearing a specific outfit, advise
them to wear it only when it is clean. Finally, teach them how
to dry clothes in the sun.

Tell them to change clothes when it is sweaty or smelly.

Moreover, don’t forget to teach them how frequently they
should change their clothes. Most importantly, they should
never wear the same clothes after taking a shower. Explaining
the importance of clothing hygiene is a crucial part of
teaching personal hygiene for kids. Moreover, it is also
important for teaching them socially acceptable norms.

SLEEPING HYGIENE

Sleeping and resting are essential for humans, as the body utilises
this period to regenerate new cells and record memories. This time
is key for kids, as their bodies are in a development phase in this
stage of life. Children need at least 8 hours of sound sleep. And,
they must sleep in a healthy environment for better health.

SNEEZING/COUGHING
HYGIENE

Firstly, prevent your kids from spreading

germs by teaching them how to sneeze
or cough with proper etiquette. For
example, they should sneeze while
covering their mouth and nose.
Secondly, encourage your kids to use a
handkerchief or tissue paper instead of
using their hands. Tell them, if a cloth is
not available at that moment, teach
them how to use their sleeve or elbow
instead. This act will surely prevent them
from spreading the infection through
their hands.
Lastly, you can encourage them to wear
a mask whenever they go outside. It will
safeguard your little ones from any types
of infection, germs, and dirt particles. 10

KEEPING HOUSE/ROOM CLEAN

Home is the first school for every child, and parents are undoubtedly
their best teachers. This is precisely why teaching them the
importance of keeping the house clean early on is so important.

Besides all kinds of hygiene habits mentioned above, your children

should learn to take responsibility for their home. Therefore, some
personal hygiene for kids should be built up at home, such as:

Instruct your kids to pick up their plates after eating. Dump the
leftover into a dustbin. Then, put the dishes in the sink and wash
them with dishwashing soap. Also, tell them to wash their hands
once they are done.
Teach them how to keep the room neat and clean.
Make sure they clean their reading table every day.
If your kids mistakenly spill something in the house, teach them to
clean it. If your children are very young, help them to clean it.
Instruct them to organise their books, bookshelves, and wardrobe
while growing up.
Ask for help while you do house chores so that they can learn from
you.

side effects of
poor hygiene

Good personal hygiene habits are directly related to

less illnesses and better health. Poor personal hygiene
habits, however, can lead to some minor side effects,
like body odor and greasy skin. They can also lead to
more troublesome or even serious issues.
For example, if you don’t wash your hands
frequently, you can easily transfer germs and bacteria
to your mouth or eyes. This can lead to any number
of issues, from stomach viruses to pink eye.
Not brushing your teeth can lead to teeth issues and
plaque buildup. Poor dental care is also a risk factor
for several serious health issues, including heart
disease.
Poor hygiene habits can also affect your self-esteem.
Looking and feeling presentable can give you a
confidence boost and a sense of pride in your
appearance.

12
side effects of
poor hygiene

Other conditions may be prevented or the risk

minimized by practicing good personal hygiene.

These are some examples:

scabies
pubic lice
head lice
body lice
diarrhea
athlete’s foot
ringworm
pinworms
swimmer’s ear
hot tub rash

13
creating a personal
hygiene routine

If you want to improve your personal hygiene or help a child

develop better habits, these strategies might be helpful:

Set reminders

If you can’t remember to do things like shower, wash your hair,

clip your nails, or brush your teeth, set a reminder on your phone.
The cue will push you to the activity, and over time, you’ll begin to do
it yourself.

Use signs

Hang a reminder in the bathroom to wash your hands after using

the toilet. Put a little sign by the plates or bowls in the kitchen to cue
yourself to wash your hands before eating. These signs can help jog
your memory and improve your habits. They can help both you and
your children.

Practice makes perfect

It takes time to learn a new habit. Start with a new habit at the
beginning of the week and make it your priority. Practice it for a
week or two. When you feel comfortable with it, add a new one.
Overtime, you’ll establish the habits you wish to have.

PERSONAL
REFLECTION

While I'm making this booklet for Proper Eating Habits and
Hygiene to the fact that it will take some time for the layout or
design of every page so that it's easy for me to caught the
attention of the students and make them interested not only
on the cover page but also to the content my first booklet
making here in DLSAU as a Final Product in Teaching Physical
Education and Health to the Elementary. As I was saying it
takes time to design and create a booklet because while I'm
editing I am also asking my cousin and friend if they think it will
caught their attention. It's important to have a research and
survey that is related in something like booklet for elementary
because I don't know if my works is good to others who will read
it. I did have fun putting some cute designs for my booklet to
look appealing to the students eyes. It's good for me to have
fun while making this booklet because it helps me to relax and
enjoy even if I got a hard time choosing this or that , trying all
the colors, and trying to make it simple but visually appealing
so that I can create a good booklet. I also realized the
importance of being creative if I will teach in the Elementary.
It's one of the reason to get their attention because they tend
to be amazed and curious all the time. In the process of making I
think of printing some copies for my cousins in the province as
an extra gift this coming Christmas. I also feel the hardwork
and sleepless nights that they are experiencing every day of
their life in teaching elementary students. If you will ask me
after feeling that sleepless nights if I want to continue my
journey in teaching then my answer is YES. I will continue
studying hard as I can so that I can learn fully what I need to
know in teaching and for me to become a good and passionate
teacher in the future.
