Manchester has the potential for nearly 150,000 sq ft of extra out-of-town fashion retail space, according to research by Savills.

The city has 433,948 sq ft of floor space dedicated to the sector but with more than 1.3m shoppers, it could accommodate 579,847 sq ft.

Using the shopper population of UK cities outside London compared to the amount of available floor space in four retail sectors, the study showed which cities have potential

for the biggest uplift to bring them to the national average in terms of density.

Oxford tops the list in the out-of-town leisure market, with a big enough shopper population for 46,973 sq ft of leisure space – more than five times what it has.
