1. Situation

In the new Mac OS 10.7 Lion some network protocols are not longer supported or were
changed, additional some changes regarding rights management for printer drivers and
there plugins.

2. Impact

1.) SMB
Apple has changed from Samba to their own SMBX.
SMBX supported SMB 1.0 , SMB 2.0 and assume Unicode
SMB Scan from Konica Minolta MFP‘s does not longer work.

2.) FTP
The GUI for the FTP server was removed, so for using Scan to FTP you have to
activate FTP Server via Terminal first.

3.) Printing with Konica Minolta 10.6. driver

The most printer driver functions are available.

4.) Printing with EFI Fiery driver 10.6

EFI printer drivers for Mac OS 10.6 cannot be installed on Lion and are not
working. This is due to incompatibilities with the core printing system of 10.7.

5.) Installation of Twain driver KM C35 ver. 1.3.0.0 is not possible

pkg installer is not prepared for Mac OS 10.7

3. Workaround

1.) SMB
Please use Scan to FTP

2.) FTP
activate FTP Server via Terminal

open terminal
enter
dseditgroup -o create -n /Local/Default -u LADMIN com.apple.access_ftp

enter passwort
enter
dseditgroup -o edit -u LADMIN -a FTPUSERNAME com.apple.access_ftp

enter passwort
enter
sudo launchctl load -w /System/Library/LauchDaemons/ftp.plist

enter passwort

# LADMIN = User short name of Administrator

# FTPUSERNAME = FTP User

3.) Printing with Konica Minolta 10.6. driver

No workaround necessary

4.) Printing with EFI Fiery driver 10.6

EFI has released Fiery express driver. The driver allows you to perform basic print
functions. Please refer to the documentation included with the driver.

1.) Scan to SMB

under investigation

2.)Scan to FTP
solved with activation from FTP server via Terminal.

3.) Printing with Konica Minolta 10.6. driver

New printer driver for 10.7 will be available in the beginning of November 2011

4.) Printing with EFI Fiery driver 10.6

New driver will be released to support Mac OS X 10.7.
The target release schedule is approximately three months after Lion is officially
released.
