(FAQ)
What is the Digital IC?
Who has the Digital IC?
Can my business accept the
Digital IC as an alternative proof of identity?
The Digital IC is envisaged to be used
when an individual needs to prove his identity to a government agency or business.
From 1 November 2021, the Digital IC is
accepted by all government agencies as an alternative to producing the physical NRIC or long-term pass card for transactions involving identity verification except where legislation references a specific document of identity.
Businesses are similarly encouraged
to accept the Digital IC.
How do I ensure that a
person’s Digital IC is legitimate?
The Digital IC has an animated lion
crest with a holographic effect at the corner of the user’s photograph to deter image tampering and screenshot spoofing. The lion crest is absent or appears static if a person attempts to capture a screen recording of the Digital IC.
Businesses should check for this
animated lion crest with holographic effect to ascertain that the Digital IC screen is legitimate, and request for users to tap on their device to verify that the presented identity credentials are not captured images or videos.
How do I ascertain if the
Digital IC presented belongs to the user?
What if I need to verify a
person’s identity for a higher level assurance transaction? (e.g. Registration of club membership, new mobile phone line)
How do I keep records of the
Digital IC?
The Digital IC feature is not meant for
downloading, printing or capturing screenshots. Please do not collect screenshots or recordings of the Digital IC for record keeping.
For businesses that require personal
particulars on the physical NRIC/long- term pass card, they are encouraged to use the Singpass Verify API. Customers can use their Singpass app to scan a QR code displayed by the business and consent to share the necessary personal information, such as name, NRIC, and residential address, with the business.
Alternatively, businesses can record
the particulars into their own systems after viewing the Digital IC. Like any other personal information, details from the Digital IC are subject to the Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA).
For services that are fully online,
agencies and businesses are encouraged to use Myinfo API, which pre-fills a digital form with personal and business data from government sources upon authentication with Singpass/Corppass.
Visit Singpass API to find out more
about Verify and Myinfo APIs.
Why is my business’ barcode
scanner unable to read the barcode on the Digital IC?
How can I encourage my
customers to use the Digital IC as proof of identity?
