Sustainability can be defined as the capacity to maintain or
improve the state and availability of desirable materials or
conditions over the long term

Sustainability is a societal goal that relates to the ability of

people to safely co-exist on Earth over a long time.
The hospitality industry is a broad category of fields within
the service industry that
includes lodging, food and drink service, event
planning, theme parks, travel and tourism. It includes
hotels, tourism agencies, restaurants and bars.
Why Sustainability in Hospitality?
Dilemma: Hospitality Industry (specially Hotel sector) put pressure on
Environment and is demanding on natural resources. However the
industry also on relies on- unspoiled landscape, sandy beaches,
turquoise water, glaciers , waterfall and fresh air which serve great
tourist attraction.
Problems : Increasing of waste , excessive use of natural resources
and electricity, littering on tourist spots, disposal of waste in the water
bodies and increasing carbon footprints
289700 tones of waste including 79000 tonnes of food waste
25,668kWh/month consumption of electricity by a typical hotel
