GREEN DAY
since 1987

It is an American rock band formed in the East Bay of California in 1987. They infused
the raw power of punk with a melodic pop sensibility and lyrics that captured the angst-ridden
restlessness of American teenagers at the end of the 20th century and into the 21st. The principal
members were Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt and Tré Cool.
Green Day has earned 214 award nominations and 92 wins. In American music awards,
they won as the “Favorite Alternative Rock Artist” in 2005 and 2009. Also, they won the
“Creative Voice Award” in ASCAP Pop Music Awards (2005). In Billboard Music Awards,
Green Day has received six awards from nine nominations. It also includes “The California
Music Awards (formerly known as the Bammy Awards) is an annual awards ceremony
established in 1978 by BAM (Bay Area Music) magazine editor Dennis Erokan and with that,
Green Day has received all awards and they have received seventeen awards out of seventeen
nominations. Some of these proves that Green Day is one of the most successful and famous
bands around the world.
Green Day rocks the No. 1 slot on the Billboard 200 with its third chart-topping album,
Revolution Radio. The band’s 12th studio effort enters atop the list with 95,000 equivalent album
units earned in the week ending Oct. 13, according to Nielsen Music. Of that sum, 90,000 were
in traditional album sales.
