Community practices

Revision Question; according to ROSS understanding of community organization, how is the Ugandan
community organized? In other words, how, dose the Ugandan community Identify its needs or
objectives. orders or ranks them, develops confidences and will to work on them the resources
(internal and external) to deal with them and act in respect to them.

According Ross (1967), community organization is a “process by which a community identifies


its needs or objectives and gives priority to them, develops confidence and will to work at them,
finds resources (internal and external) to work with them and in doing so, extends and develops
cooperative and collaborative attitudes.
Ross (1967) view, community organization uses four fundamental strategies for the stakeholder’s
groups to address community problems and that is necessary for a country like Uganda and as
Social workers should as well employ in creating change these include.
community organizing This involves mobilizing a group of people to address common issues
and concerns and enabling them to action. It focuses on collective actions, the power derived
from the synchronized actions of people in unity as opposed to separate individuals.
Advocacy is a strategic approach to influencing outcomes and driving change on behalf of your
community.in this approach, it involves representing your community's rights and needs to the
level of government best able to respond.
Service Delivery this means organizing a community outreach program to increase awareness on
a particular problem of the agency.
Development this strategy aims to empower and help communities improve their social and
physical environments and increase equity and social justice, overcome. social exclusion, build
social capital and capacities and involve communities in the strategic.
